Fort Hood soldier sentenced to two years in prostitution scheme

A Fort Hood soldier who admitted to luring financially strapped female soldiers into a prostitution ring on the post was sentenced to two years imprisonment Thursday, hours after apologizing for putting a “smudge” on an Army struggling to lower its rates of sexual assault.

Sgt. 1st Class Gregory McQueen, 39, also received a reduction in rank to private and a dishonorable discharge, which means he will lose retirement benefits his lawyers said could be worth as much as $350,000.

McQueen initially faced a maximum punishment of more than 40 years, but pleaded guilty to most of the charges against him in a deal with the government that dramatically reduced his potential sentence. He pleaded not guilty to a single assault charge related to his unwanted kissing of a young soldier he tried to lure into the ring, but was convicted for that charge Thursday morning after a short trial.

Prosecutors said McQueen’s actions were particularly heinous because at the time he was the sexual assault prevention officer for his battalion at Fort Hood’s III Corps command group. On Wednesday, one of three female soldiers he admitted to trying to bring into the ring said he used information gained in that role — of a previous sexual assault — to try to win her confidence.

Retired Sgt. 1st Class Jennifer Dice said McQueen’s actions had devastated the Sexual Harassment/Assault Prevention and Response Team at Fort Hood. “The program was broken basically,” she said. “There was no trust. Soldiers could not come forward. The program was abused.”

And where would he have dismembered the body? I wonder if he was a suspect early on and they already knew some of these things. I would think they would have treated the armory room as a potential crime scene from the beginning. Wasn't she last seen leaving and walking to her car in the parking lot? Never to be seen again? Or was that a different parking lot?
I’m don’t know that we know for sure any of it! There has been conflicting reports, IMO.

I just don’t think he could’ve dismembered VG without leaving some evidence. I mean anybody could’ve walked in, right?
Perhaps he put the body in the case and dismembered at another location with his little helper. We may never know because CA has no one to dispute her, unless they’ve got some good evidence.

Thanks. I guess I'm wondering where anyone got this info. Was there video or a confession? That report contains pretty specific details. E g. his girl friend using a machete. Isn't she out on bail? Oh my goodness...either I've missed alot or they're are still many questions to answer. I think the Army is pretty po'd at social media.
If there isn't more to this and more people involved does it end with girlfriend and her aiding in disposal? Where is any justice going to be?
I don't think she is out on bail. It does seem as if most of the information came from her, though.

Yeah, she disappeared from the jail roster last night, but she is there now. I wonder if she was moved for questioning.

It does appear she provided much of this information, to include those details from the family attorney about items being thrown out a car window. It’ll be interesting to see if they can find Vanessa’s cell phone, as that could shed light on this case, and any sexual harassment.

An arms room is a secure room within a building where an Army unit stores their weapons and other sensitive items (night vision goggles, scopes, etc.); an E4 is a pay grade in the military -- it's the fourth enlisted pay grade, and correlates to a rank of specialist or corporal.

Hopefully that helps. I served in the same regiment of VG and AR (3d Cavalry Regiment), and was there when the RES squadron was stood-up so I'm familiar with the area and building layouts for a few of the other squadrons.
Much obliged @Texas68W and welcome to WS.

I'm very sorry this tragedy happened at a location known to you and with people that are probably like family to a service member like yourself.

In your opinion, is an E4 the appropriate rank to be in charge of a secure room where weapons and other sensitive items are stored?

(Not to make light of this subject but I'm thinking of lance Cpl Gomer Pyle).

I think this all going to be quite simple, and it does only involve these two suspects.

AR finds himself alone with Vanessa, and makes a move. She rebuffs him, and he then decides he has to kill her. Vanessa was in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong man.

AR kills her, hides her body, cleans up, and contacts his girlfriend for help.

He lucked out because he didn’t work in the same building, and wasn’t in her chain of command. This gave him enough time to get her body out of there, as CID didn’t become involved until the following day.

pretty much! Bingo!!!

There are still a lot of unanswered questions with this case. Who called her in for extra duty, who opened the arms room, who marked her present when she wasn't etc.

I am also disappointed that they are, again, pushing the sexual harassment allegations to the side. I truly hope an independent investigation is going on to get to the bottom of what's happening at Fort Hood.

I'm not sold on the official narrative coming from the other suspects in custody.

Someone else mentioned the idea of VG discovering and potentially wanting to report a prostitution ring, and that's certainly not out of the question considering Fort Hood's spotty history with prostitution/sex trafficking.

I agree. With that said though, if they believed it was him-- sign ins, etc, why was he not followed or detained? They had the remains much earlier in the day so unless he was evading them, he should have been monitored. Was the assumption that he would come in quietly? Was he tipped off by someone? How did he have access to a gun if he had been on their radar? Too many questions....

He was told not to leave after he spoke with a lie detector person. He then left anyway and walked off base. This is what the family attorney said. They immediately started looking for him.

Yes, someone else who worked in the armory room that day or whoever supervised them has to know something. They must know by now who called her in to work, who had a key and who signed her in as being there at 3:00 pm.
I have appreciated your military insight on this thread - I did google 5 stars (My father was Army)
These are the 9 general officers who have earned five stars
It's an interesting list that spans the Armed Forces. I learned something new today so thank you.
Thank you to everyone who support soldiers. We're not all bad apples for sure! All of this has made me conflict with why I served and as long as I did....I have to keep reminding myself why regardless of the Nightmare Ft. Hood has created for everyone. Thanks again! One Team, One Fight!

I’ve never seen a murder to cover up something like that, and I don’t think it makes sense in light of what we do know.

This man appears to have killed her, and then enlisted his gf to help him. If this was some sort of bizarre conspiracy involving other military personnel, then those would have been the ones to help him.

If he did leave her in the pelican case and leave to go pick up disposal supplies (as is being alleged by the family attorney), then this seems to be a more spontaneous act.

He wasn’t prepared.

I don’t know what happened, but the jail roster is again showing her in custody. Inmate Detail - AGUILAR, CECILY ANNE

Whew... thanks for re-posting -- hated the idea she made bail!
