Update from DDP:
"DNA Doe Project Case Announcement: Orange Socks Jane Doe – Georgetown, Texas (1979)
Status:
Our coordination with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on the Orange Socks Jane Doe case began in May 2018. However, it took nearly a year to obtain sufficient DNA with which to proceed. Early this past April HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology received her extract for Whole Genome Sequencing, and our bioinformatics expert received Orange Socks' files on 7 June. We expect to deliver her case to our DNA Doe Project volunteers for genealogical analysis in the next few days.
Who was Orange Socks Jane Doe?
On 31 October 1979, a passerby discovered the nearly naked body of a woman lying face-down in a concrete water drainage channel along I-35 in Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas (located north of Austin). The victim had been sexually assaulted and strangled. Authorities nicknamed her “Orange Socks” due to her apparel.
The unidentified woman had shoulder-length brown hair, hazel eyes, pierced ears, and a scar under her chin. Along with the pair of orange socks, she also wore a sterling silver ring set with a stone similar to mother-of-pearl. Authorities placed the woman's age between 15 and 30 years of age and estimated her to be approximately 5'8” to 5'10” tall, weighing around 140 to 160 pounds. Authorities also noted that the victim's teeth were well-maintained, although evidence of dental work or cavities was unapparent and two teeth were absent.
In 1982, Henry Lee Lucas, a confessed serial killer, told authorities that he was responsible for her death. However, Lucas later retracted his confession.
The woman known only as “Orange Socks” was laid to rest in a cemetery in Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas with a marker that simply says “Unidentified Woman.”
