Smacking a 3/4 year old whose level of reasoning is somewhat limited is different to using this same method of discipline on a 10 year old. Not that I condone either. MOO

Eg: Maybe you could justify disciplining a 3 year old running and going on the road while in a shopping centre. As opposed to a 10 year old doing this - who has more capacity to have a more rational conversations about these dangers and the consequences and why it's important to not run straight onto a busy road. MOO

I don't see the logic behind why the FM had a wooden spoon or even resorted to this method of discipline. Just my opinion.

A child from the State, I would expect the Department would be very much against this form of discipline. I would Hope they would be reiterating correct, safe methods and the tolerance for this behaviour being Zero.

I feel as a foster carer its like you are technically doing a job on behalf of the state and if you were a teacher or childcare worker you would similarly not be able to use this as a discipline method. MOO

bbm This line is a bit ambiguous. I wonder which child in their care they were referring to. Logic tells me the newer child, I'm really hoping that was the case when the longer term child was struggling with a new addition to the family.
There is no further information as yet, (that I have seen) on that particular statement …. Perhaps it will be explained further in a later article …. ? If so I will update the thread ….

As Stratton was talking about the “victim“ at the time, I actually wondered if was the other way around???

I think you will find that it was in regard to the victim, as it seems it was in regard to one of the charges the Prosecutor was speaking about.

Stratton said another matter put forward by prosecutors was his client telling the child that she would speak to someone about “in effect, ending the child’s custody with her”.

He said this occurred after the husband and wife took on another foster child, and a conflict arose because the child believed they were “no longer the centre of the attention, because the attention was going towards this other child”.

Stratton said a comment that the child could be removed from the family’s care, in the context of “household disharmony”, was not violence or a threat of violence. He said none of the matters put forward by the Crown should be permitted as tendency evidence in the case.

Yes. But we know how these journos put sentences out of context and marry two different ideas together to possibly give a more terrible view on the matter. I'm hoping that is the case anyway because to have a child's security held over their head when not coping/acting out/ being naughty would be..... well I can't find the words for all the effects it could have, so better not to speculate.

Sadly it appears the child will have to give evidence….. (at least it is recorded)

The girl is due to testify via pre-recorded evidence during a week-long trial at Parramatta Local Court in Sydney's west.

Did you see the link above by Sleep??? The SMH has more context and they are speaking about the victim it appears ….

DM and MSM are written by the same person - Candice Sutton. BOTH have different headlines in regard to the 'husband'.

MSM says EX and DM says Husband.

I am not sure many marriages could withstand what has occurred over the last 9 years ….

The Morcombe‘s are a testament to their faith, and an exception to the norm I think ….

IMO (but yes could be a mistake as well …. )

I wonder if SFR will be in court for the full 5 days??

William Tyrrell's foster mother admits assaulting girl, 11

“Attending the hearing was a large group of detectives from Strike Force Rosann, which is investigating the disappearance of William Tyrrell, including the task force commander Detective Chief Inspector David Laidlaw.”

No Idea. IMO someone would have reported it in MSM, so I'll guess not.

True Also uue to the pressure from public over William being missing.
IMO FM is not going to get a a good behaviour bond unlike William Bio Parents, FM is going to be sentenced
Police can now close the case, with or without Charges.
Gosh @Shadow@light I didn’t really think of a sentence …. I thought maybe a probation order …. ??? If their Barrister can’t get them a not guilty result….

I do agree (sadly) that very soon Police are going to close William’s case… (if they haven’t already) and not investigate it any further unless William is somehow found …

I think they are just waiting on completion of the court cases and the finalisation of the inquest ….

All JMO ….

I think FM will likely be sentenced with a community services order. I think that is what the initial magistrate said he would sentence, when this case was first heard in court.

I wondered more along the lines if they may be called to give evidence???

I doubt they would need so many in court to give evidence, maybe one or two, but there sounds to quite a few of them attending. IMO

There's probably not a "large group" of detectives in SFR now. Might be members of the Unsolved Homicide squad, which is where SFR (possibly two detectives, plus Laidlaw) probably sits these days.

imo
