Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office looking for missing Winnebago County man after finding abandoned car

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office asking public for help locating missing man

Reif is listed as a missing and endangered person through Winnebago County.

Mitchell S. Reif is listed at 5′8, 250lbs with brown hair and blue eyes. He is from Winneconne and was last seen in northwestern Lincoln County.

Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies received a report of an abandoned car on private land in the Town of Somo just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Personal identification found near the car matched it with Mitchell S. Reif.

Sheriff’s deputies contacted the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and were told that he was the subject of a welfare check on June 22. They weren’t able to locate Reif at that time, and listed him as missing/endangered through Winnebago County.

His ID was found near the vehicle.


While deputies searched for Reif, another call came in from a landowner on Homestead Road who said a trail camera had captured an image of someone matching Reif’s description. The image was taken about a half-mile south of where the vehicle was located, just after 8:45 a.m. Sunday.

If (and that is unknown) he had been under the influence and abandoned the vehicle, temperatures now are conducive to finding him safe, barring injury. I hope this is the case.

That road doesn't appear to exist. There is a Homestead Lake Rd. but that is southeast of Somo, WI.

I can’t find a Homestead Road nearby on the map either. But, this appears to be the East Circle Drive mentioned in the article. It’s northwest of Tomahawk, WI.

It's not an approved source but if you search his name on FB, one of the Northern Wisconsin missing persons group posts for him has a photo reportedly taken from a trail cam of him around the time he went missing, He looks much like the missing person photo. Although I've seen some missing photos of him wherein he looks thinner, in this reported photo he looks to be about 250 pounds IMO as stated in his missing info.

Circumstances of Disappearance A search for Mitchell located his phone in a ditch in Outagamie County and his vehicle was last observed on traffic cameras near Prentice, WI. On June 25 law enforcement was contacted for a vehicle which appeared to be crashed and abandoned deep into private property near Tripoli, WI. This vehicle belonged to Mitchell. Mitchell was observed on a trail camera approximately one mile away from his vehicle in a wooded area of private property on June 22 at 8:44 am. A ground search team recovered a shoe belonging to Mitchell. Mitchell was last seen wearing dark colored sweatpants and a black t-shirt.
