AL AL - Theresa Benn, 42, Talladega, 19 Oct 2014

http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2014/11/body_of_woman_who_went_missing.html
the body of Theresa Benn, 42, was found by authorities in a creek near Jackson Shoals.

The young man that went missing after the 2013 spring Nascar race was also found in a creek (Choccolocco Creek) near Jackson Shoals, about a mile from the track. I wonder if it's the same one. His death was ruled an accident. Link below.

Last sentence at link . . .
"Authorities do not suspect foul play."

Yeah, I'm not that gullible. There's no way they can not suspect foul play. Seems maybe they're not wanting a potentially local murderer to flee before forensics come back.

I bit my fingers too hard on this one and out of lurk only mode again.

I will say this:

I lived in Talladega County on and off for over 30 years and presently at the south end.

One can hope, but I for one am not holding my breath.

From personal experience and observations I have less than zero faith in THIS sheriff's office and coroner's office.

We are saddened to announce that the search for 42 year-old Theresa Benn is now over. Human remains thought to be those of Theresa have been found by searchers led by the Texas EquuSearch team. However, positive identification must still be determined, and confirmed by Lincoln, Alabama law enforcement investigators and medical authorities.

We ask that everyone please keep Theresa’s family, friends and her community in your thoughts and prayers during this most tragic time in their lives. We want thank the volunteer searchers that came to search for Theresa; especially those Texas EquuSearch members that traveled a great distance to find her. We also want to extend a very special thank you to the Lincoln, Alabama law enforcement investigators for their dedication, determination and professionalism in the Theresa Benn’s case.

RIP Theresa.

Very tragic outcome, prayers going up. Looked over the maps as well I'm assuming Theresa was let out of the car at the corner of Eastaboga Rd and Speedway Blvd it would be a long trek around the track to Jackson shoals area. Assuming the current runs southeast the bridge is a key element, as that the shoals is to the SE of the bridge.

From MSN articles my understanding is he let her out on Speedway Industrial Drive. It's on the same side of the speedway as the Jackson Shoals area. Still, it would be about a two to three mile walk to the creek area.

(There's a few streets in that vicinity with similar names... Speedway Blvd, Speedway Circle, Speedway Industrial Road Speedway Industrial Drive and Industrial Road; some on one end of Speedway Blvd, some halfway down and another on the other side of the airport)

He supposedly let Theresa out at the corner of Eastboga Rd & Speedway Blvd; their are 2 routes to the creek west on Speedway then turning onto Jackson Trace south. The other route would be straight south on Eastaboga, turn on to Turner Mill Rd then on to Jackson Trace Rd North very long ways to go around the main entryways to the track ... Do not for see this route being taken by them. Reason I say that is Theresa lived in a town North of Talladega so driving south would not be on a route home.

Are you sure about that? I ask because I created the map above with the location of her getting out of the vehicle as being on Speedway Industrial Drive. I will need to correct it if it was at the corner of Eastaboga instead. I've not seen any links that state that's where she got out of the vehicle, though I'd seen it speculated in one media report earlier on in the investigation.

Since then, several links do state specifically that she was last seen on Speedway Ind. Drive.

Hm.

From The Birmingham News . . .

"[Detective] Crowe said the woman's husband, Kevin Dulaney, told investigators he dropped her off on or near Eastaboga Road about 2:15 a.m. that Sunday."

And from the same article . . .

"Benn, [. . .] was last seen the predawn hours of that Sunday on Speedway Industrial Drive in Lincoln."

Interesting to say the least

I know the area and was also a personal friend of Theresa's just telling you what I do know

Referring to this statement I'd quoted above,

"Benn, [. . .] was last seen the predawn hours of that Sunday on Speedway Industrial Drive in Lincoln."

. . . The reporter stated predawn. If she's using the word correctly then that would have been sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., approximately. I wonder if that's the case. I mean, she'd know 2, 3, and 4 a.m. certainly aren't predawn hours, right?

According to the poster that knows them, and what I read, he is saying he dropped her off at the corner around 2am. The article is saying she was last seen the predawn hours. It doesn't say by whom. Could be by anyone, right? Or am I misreading.

You cant read to deep, often reporters miss use words. It also blew me away that weeks search parties went out and it only took a few hours for Equusearch to locate her. Heart is heavy that Theresa was out there for that long, there are pieces that are still missing. Have IMO's of 2 potential possibilities however assume to keep that to myself. As far as media thus far www.wiat.com has had the most coverage than any other station or newspaper.

Oh, no! I was searching info. on another case when I saw this... "found deceased"! Was so hoping for a different outcome. Condolences to family and friends. I am so very sorry for your loss. I pray that answers will come quickly.

If you are, then we both are. I've not seen any mention of how she was seen or who had seen her on Speedway Industrial Drive either. I wonder if there's any security footage.

I thought I'd read it stated in an article previously that he was the last known person to see her. That's why I'd originally thought he must have let her out at Speedway Industrial Dr.

Her husband, Kevin Dulaney, reported her missing that evening. He told investigators that he dropped Benn off at an intersection about two-and-a-half miles away from the race track.

Dulaney told police that Benn got out of his car around 2:30 a.m. during an argument.

Dulaney told investigators he dropped her off at the corner of Speedway Blvd. and Eastaboga Rd. Dulaney reported that she’d wanted to go to the Speedway, but he did not, so he let her out his car.

BTW AL.com has not done the best in reporting

Sad to see this outcome. I hope we do find out more. I'm confused by the husband and th r bar owner's conflicting statements also. I thought I read the bar activity was on camera so it was very credible.
