Oh my word! Quite possible. Wouldn't that be a turnover for the books as they say. He was/is such a handsome and charming jigger as were many if his playmates :)

Well if he was in business development we very well could have!
Thanks again Cherchri for the feedback today and I hope you have a very relaxing evening!

Now that I have some free time to write, can I just say how underwhelming today was...

What, if anything, does it say about the evidence? No application for bail, no psych assessment, just set a date and go.

Perhaps it's weak and they know they'll have to just go through the process. Perhaps it's damning, and it's a negotiation strategy. Perhaps lawyer and client haven't agreed on a strategy yet. Even if there was nothing to it, would they have bothered asking for bail?

Perhaps they just don't have enough of it yet, and simply can't do anything.

I can't imagine how disappointed and frustrated the family must feel. Regardless of the guilt or innocence, just not knowing what happened, and knowing that LE has so much more info they could be sharing.

I can't imagine being the LE contact person with the family, knowing you can't provide them any relief even though you know you possibly could.

... and DG. Guilty and trying to get off with as little as possible, or innocent and forced to spend at least a year of his life in jail to prove it... with elderly parents in the last years of their lives.

What a mess.

Well you have encapsulated that so very well. It was as though the wind had been let out of everyone's sails and took less than 10 minutes. People were just catching their breath from the shock of DG appearing in person and it was over! 8 months is an interminable length of time for all parties to endure.

I think al's fourth kid is Clinton (another cl) from when al spent some time on Vancouver island

Phew! No not business development. He is in a very specialized area of engineering.

Cherchri, could you re-post your comments from the courthouse today in this thread? That would be very helpful for fellow sleuthers.

Jumping off deugirtni's post in the previous thread about DG sentencing wrt trafficking and him having told the judge that he made his own meth because he had ADD ... the article says:

from:
http://injusticebusters.org/index.htm/newstories3.htm

Douglas Garland, 39, vanished seven years ago after Calgary police seized chemicals, laboratory equipment and illegal drugs such as methamphetamines and LSD from a rural shed

:waitasec: I wonder how he explained away the LSD

I certainly don't question that he was sentenced to 39 months ... but even with 1/3 knocked off his sentence (statutory release), I sure can't figure out how he managed to serve only 6 months

ETA: I wonder if the 6 months was in error and should have read 26 months (39 months less 1/3 = 26 months)

Sheesh stan ... kind of hard to give a link to personal experiences (which we all speak to at times)

I am not sure if you want all of them. Just say if I should trim this back..... Sorry no links :)
So we waited 3 hours for a 3 minute appearance BUT DG appeared in person. Since I was sitting right by the Sheriff with just plexiglass between us, he was 100% visible to me and close enough that I could almost hear him breathe. I will put some more info together in a sec but the info pasted over is accurate. dec 4 a private meeting and then May 19 preliminary. PS it was worth the 3 hour wait!
Amazingly no plea. Since they are moving ahead with preliminary, we are left to assume he is not pleading guilty. No request for a psych evaluation either.
I am just double checking a number of things.... Ito identifying people by the correct names and I will give a full report. For me, all the action happened outside the courtroom with the press.

And I read he didn't make eye contact with anyone present. I'm still shocked more of the L and O families weren't there to make some sort of emotional impact on him. If guilty, he knows damn well where he put his victims, and I keep thinking he might budge more with the families there staring him down IMO.
Lala he would have had to turn around to make eye contact and he did not do that. The way the prisoners' area is set up, they face side-on to where the various counsel are situated. His hair is much fuller and longer now. He is definitely my height and quite a diminutive man. He looks as though he has lost some weight. I sat next to the sketch artist - Janice Fletcher. She did not have time to sketch him while he was in the court which may explain why her rendering looks nothing like him. I had a lovely long talk with Elissa Carpenter of CTV News. She has her own theory and I have to tell you that it varies only very slightly from mine. I overheard another reporter saying he is watching Breaking Bad on netflix as he is sure the victim disposal was close. Another said he was aware that lye was removed from the property and he had seen an overhead of an incinerator. He said "not an industrial incinerator" but an incinerator nonetheless. Elissa talked to me about the timeline of the truck on CCTV in Parkhill. First picked up at 9:15 and then again at 10:15. She speculates he would have seen JO's vehicle at 9:15 and came back later when it appeared "company" had left. I barely recognized RO who is now bearded - he kindly held the door for me on entering the courtroom. AL was with someone I thought o be PG. She held the door for me going out and was visibly teary eyed. Problem is, this lady had very long blonde hair and the only pics I have seen of PG her hair was brunette and not very long. I know PG has dimples but since this lady did not smile, I can't be sure it was her. Ch and her husband were there too and that was it for family. I have to say I had heart palpitations when I realized DG was being ushered in..... Shackled I might add. His facial expression did not vary an iota and it was much like the pic of him coming out of processing when he had just done the perp walk. Angry looking. As he was escorted out, he glanced into the room as if looking for a familiar face.....just a fleeting glance and then head down. So very little news to share just my firsthand experience. I am still overwhelmed at being do close to him - I could have whispered to him!
Ok just checked FB pics - pretty sure it was Nancy with AL.

It actually started at 9. I sat through 8 other matters prior to DG's appearance. All but one were moved to later dates. One pleaded guilty and was sentenced. It's a bit of a sausage machine.
Thanks for the lowdown Cherchr! Who is Nancy? Where did you see a pic of PG? (I haven't seen one yet?) How do you know she has dimples (because you've seen her smiling photo?) No sighting of DG's parents? Was there a delay in DG's appearance specifically, or is that just how it happened to turn out timewise today (because of the other cases before his?) It was mentioned in MSM (as Otto posted just above) that KR had informed the court on how far he had progressed through the disclosure to date, did you happen to hear anything in that regard? Hey I came across an interesting article on the manufacture of meth.. I will post a link later.. thank you again for your report, it is great to have a WS member in attendance!
KR did not inform the court....I saw that report and scratched my head. I don't see that in any other reports and I certainly heard nothing to that effect. I have seen many pics of PG on Facebook. Only RO, NL, AL, CH and her husband were there. No other family of accused or victims. KR only showed up at 12 noon so who knows if that was by arrangement. The judge did ask very early in the day where KR was and why the sketch artist should have to sit there all morning. The judge is a very likeable man. Good humoured, kindly and very respectful to accused, counsel et al.

9:15 & 10:15...well that would explain the 'almost daylight' lighting in the picture....possibly the screenshot from the police came from the 9:15 drive by....I'm thinking the woman with very long blonde hair ...maybe EL? JMOO
I'd be totally creeped out being THAT close....oh my.....thank you again for your time & all this first hand information!!
The reporters read our posts! One admitted that to me today. We know one of them picked up my post exposing who the POI was and claiming a scoop nearly 2 days later I shared my theory waaaaay back when and no, I have not watched Breaking Bad. After seeing the trailer of the guy in his y-fronts I decided it wasn't for me*

Edited to add: we might as well rehash theories, we have until May before anything happens with this case...
My theory is that the victims were disposed of with lye and the calcified remains incinerated. Under pressure and feeling nauseated to even type it, I responded (separately) to someone's question as to how I thought the victims were murdered. I suggested they were bludgeoned with a tyre iron while sleeping. I can think of no reason why the victims would be removed from the scene unless it was to ensure that they would never be found. Why take that risk? I honestly feel sick even re typing this but there you have it.

I think so. The lady today has much longer hair and it was sort of wild (ish)....naturally curly but yup it's her.

Maybe he traded information for a reduced sentence? Maybe he was an informant?

it was a joke post in play with things not valid unless a link can be provided.

I Link Therefore I Am!

ha! I get it...I finally got a funny without someone spelling it out for me!:winner:

Yes, I think if you are a child killer you would have a target on your back in prison. What I meant about if DG is who I think he is... I think he is well respected in his criminal world prior to murdering an innocent child. I think his status with his fellow criminal friends will be enough to overlook the murder of an innocent child. Such a harsh viewpoint for me but that is part of my theory.

Oooooh, you think they'll overlook the murder of an innocent child....they REALLY don't like that in there. I was reading up on murders in prison a few weeks back and those guys are nasty....I don't know...if I were DG, I wouldn't count on it. JMO

I don't know. I feel like if you have the key to a successful murder plot and you are a wholesaler of chemicals you may have some interest and some skill to offer.

True, he might even get protection if his trade secrets are shared with the right people, ugh. Assuming, he does know his stuff and has had his hands in 'the business' and has been under the radar all these years.

What a mess.

Do you think that DG showing up in person in court today has anything to do with their strategy? I'm wondering if KR suggested that he 'present' himself to show attendees that he is a person and not just someone on a screen?

Oh, I know a lightening bolt is probably gonna come down and hit me, but I was happy to hear that the judge was such a personable man and was respectful to everyone including DG. That's the way it should be...guess that's why he's a judge. :)

Do you think the knowledge/reputation he has attained in the drug industry is going to extend to murder? I don't know about that, I hope so...he should be safe in prison for heaven sake. JMO

I heard/read that somewhere as hearsay that he worked with LE, but can't remember what site it was on (it was a comment of someone) and I couldn't post it here anyway as it's considered hearsay! Have no idea if it would be true. A reporter who might read this and who wants to do some digging should try to find out ;)

I'm on the same lines of thinking Tinker, it's bad, but I'm suspicious he showed up in person! Probably part of strategy. Or maybe he just wanted to breath some fresh air and go for a car ride (I'm being serious, maybe he just wanted out of his cage).

It would be interesting to know how he would be viewed. I hear what you're saying….If he was someone important he would be respected.

Buuut, I'm also wondering that now since he is charged with killing an innocent child AND let's say Cherchri is right and chemicals were used - these two things might make him very unpopular as he might've crossed a 'prison ethic' line... Wasn't Jeffrey Dahmer unpopular in prison? I think inmates found him *too* sick and twisted, not to mention he was just plain weird, a loner with not good social skills (at least that's what I know about him, correct me if I'm wrong anyone!)

I should would like to be a fly on the wall in maximum security if DG ever goes there!

ETA - I'm lumping DG together with Jeffrey Dahmer, as I personally feel using chemicals to rid of a human is just as sick as cannibalism, I wonder if hardened criminals feel the same? JMO.

Ohhh! Jeffrely Dahmer ate his...he had a lot of time to think about it while he was chewing...I think that makes him sicker and infinitely more disturbed. JMO
DG could've just put them in the barrel and walked away for a few days. Both terrible outcomes, but I think cannibalism is still worse.
