Human Predators Stalk Haiti's Vulnerable Kids

How is it possible that Silsby's children's passports were taken by the court? Which court and for what purpose? Has anyone seen info about this before?
By the Idaho courts. Had to do with her divorce. Seems she might have taken one or two of them out of the country maybe last summer? Maybe without the permission of the father, her ex-husband. I think it was mentioned early on.

I can't find any listing for a real estate agent named Jose Ovando Hidalgo anywhere in the DR, much less in Sosua or Puerto Plata.

I've been looking for over a week. No luck. Even with his full name.

No paper clip. It has something to do with "priviliges".

Thinking some more about Jorge Puello, and honestly he doesn't sound any more whacked out to me than those Baptists.

Oh, okay, priviliges is something like 25 or 50 posts, something like that.

Well, if you have been looking for a week, and yet the courts have found him, and the reporters have found him ( I think ), why can't we find him?

I sure as heck know I wouldn't hand my kids over to either of these nuts, knowing what we know now. In some ways it seems merciful that most of the parents who did hand over their children will never know the whole story as they have so much more on their minds right now--like food and fresh water.

I'm still hoping and praying that those little ones were reunited with their original families or caregivers.

jeff_jones can you just give us a link to the registry where we can look it up?

i.b.nora--Have you pulled down the "Find an Agent" button on this page? There seems to be some pseudonyms. I wonder if Hidalgo is one of these people? You've probably already looked here but wanted to make certain.

There's no online phone directory. He's called an "independent" realtor, so not linked to one of the offices, and I suspect he uses different names.
Actually this morning, a Herald blog referred to him as "pastor". Even the lawyer (or the reporter) is starting to mix things up. Of course, all the double first and last names don't help:

Fleurant, the missionaries' attorney, praised the judge, but express frustration that Samvil felt the need to travel to the Dominican Republic to see the orphanage at the root of this drama.

Such a trip could take days to plan and longer to be carried out, Fleurant said, adding that "We have proof - here! - documents from the Dominican government authorizing the acceptance of the children into this orphanage. And the pastor - Pastor Jose Orlando Hidalgo - of the church that administrates the orphanage has offered to come here and meet with the judge and tell him!"

Thanks Izzy, I actually hadn't tried that agent selection thing before, so thanks, but no luck.

Yes, Jeff, had seen that reference to 'Pastor'. "Pastor Jose Orlando Hidalgo" and "Jose Altagracia Ovando Hidalgo"

Go to http://www.onapi.gov.do/
then Marcas y Nombres
under Signo distintivo, choose "Nombre comercial"
pick "texto",
enter the exact name of the organization.
In this case the first words will do:
Refugio de niños nueva

When you get the result, click "mas info"

"I have known Jose Hidalgo for over 5 years, he is very well known in and around Sosua."

Another poster also comments that he is a pastor in Sosua. Here's a link to a blog where he's mentioned 6 times:

I think this must be where the Miami Herald got their info.

I was hoping there would be addresses and/or more info.

From Haitivox, I did not clip as far as I should have:

"But rather than deny reports that Hidalgo's Domincan orphanage might just be an empty building housing no children and is located in a neighborhood well-known for child sex-trafficking, Fleurant simply suggested such a neighborhood should have an orphanage.

"If you can put an orphanage in such an area, that is not a bad thing. There is where they need it most, no," he asked, refusing to dispute the orphanage's location.

So now we need to ask: Jose Hidalgo...Pastor or Realtor(or both)?"

There's also a link to this page, in Spanish:

Before today, you could find a lot of José Hidalgo references in Sosùa, all related to Juan José Hidalgo, famous Spanish tourism entrepreneur, certainly not the Hidalgo we're looking for.

As to the "pastor" reference, that came from James Burnett who was in PaP y'day. Either Fleurant misspoke, or Burnett needs to listen better.

Jose shows up in this court document dated July 2000, from the Supreme Court of the Dominican Republic:

http://www.suprema.gov.do/novedades/sentencias/sentinconstitucionalidad/2000071919.htm

".....representado por José Altagracia Ovando Hidalgo, al Dr. José del Carmen Adames Féliz, este ilustre abogado en particular, sin estar nombrado como notario según certificado de la Procuraduría General, expedida en fecha 10-10-96...."

No, that's all you can get for free.
But it was very helpful to make links. That's how you can find that Puello started the Sephardic Assn with his cousin Alejandro, who was also his partner in Telus Dominicana. Puello Consulting was - of course - never registered.
But no trace of Hidalgo the "realtor".

Yes, but there he was just mentioned in passing, as the rep for Terras Costas. Have followed all those leads, to no avail.
