Former Kunz investigator: DeOrr Kunz and Jessica Mitchell lied about son’s disappearance
National 0 Updated at 3:16 pm, January 27th, 2016 By: Nate Eaton, EastIdahoNews.com

IDAHO FALLS — A former private investigator working for Jessica Mitchell and DeOrr Kunz Sr. has released a letter he wrote the couple in September when he terminated their working relationship.

Frank Vilt agreed to investigate the disappearance of DeOrr Kunz, Jr. at the request of the Kunz family last August. A month later, he says he removed himself from the case.

Philip Klein, a private investigator from Texas, later picked up the case.

Vilt tells EastIdahoNews.com he is publicly releasing the letter to clear up any misconceptions people may have about why he walked away from the prominent investigation.

IDAHO FALLS — Officials say they are continuing to investigate the case of missing toddler DeOrr Kunz, Jr. even though there has not been any new information publicly released recently.

Lemhi County Sheriff Chief Deputy Steve Penner tells EastIdahoNews.com investigators have nothing new to say, but Penner says he will keep the public informed with significant developments.

Philip Klein, a private investigator working on the case, says his team is “putting the final touches” on their investigation, but has nothing to report right now.

Sheriff discusses DeOrr Kunz Jr. disappearance and other cases
By Debbie Bryce For the Idaho State Journal Feb 23, 2016

"Bowerman said it has reaffirmed his decision to retire from law enforcement when his term ends.

Last month, Bowerman announced that the little boy’s parents, Jessica Mitchell and DeOrr Kunz Sr., were suspects in the case.

Bowerman said the couple has continually changed their stories, and they’ve failed polygraphs examinations.

“We know that the parents aren’t telling the truth, and they know that we know that they’re lying,” Bowerman said. “I know that they know where the little boy is and what happened to him.”

While he hopes the case is solved on his watch, Bowerman said he believes it will be some time before an arrest is made in the case.

“We really can’t say if anyone other than the parents know what happened to DeOrr,” Bowerman said.

Klein:
“I will announce today that Jessica herself has told our investigators that she knows where the body is and uh she’s not going to go all the way and say any more. Uh, that is, uh that is a huge piece of evidence in this case. We are very, very concerned about it. We’ve asked Jessica privately, and now we’re asking Jessica publicly, to come in and tell law enforcement and tell us the real story of what happened.”

Kunz attorney: ‘Klein should be sued for defamation’

Klein's response to the attorney:

1. Mr. Browning has never made statement to us regarding not making any comments regarding this case.

2. The evidence has been reviewed by our client and his family, as well as Ms. Mitchell's family. Once again Mr. Browning has been ill informed.

-Defamation suits come with discovery from "both sides" of the case...our firm will consider a SLAPP suit against Mr. Browning and his client if they would choose to proceed.

-Vernal DeOrr Kunz is NOT OUR CLIENT (for the 1,000 time).

-If our client wishes to fire us ... two other persons with direct interest have offered to retain our firm for stage four of this case.
