*Trial continues (Day 2) (@ CT) – IL – Noreen Kumeta Rudd (19) (newlywed/27 days married) (Sept. 14, 1973-reportedly killed in car accident. Noreen’s death classified as homicide in 2013, car accident believed to be cover up for murder.) – Donnie Rudd (76/31 @ time of crime) (husband) charged (12/1/15) & indicted (1/12/16) with 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. $4M bond. Out on bond. If convicted, Rudd faces a minimum of 14 years in prison and an indeterminate maximum sentence, according to 1973 sentencing guideline. Opening statements today.
Also suspect in the April 4, 1991 murder of Loretta “Teri” Tabak-Bodtke (59).

Opening statements begin in trial of Donnie Rudd, attorney accused of killing wife (with clip)

"ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (WLS) -- Opening statements took place Tuesday in the murder trial of a former lawyer accused of killing his wife back in 1973.

Donnie Rudd showed little emotion as he headed to court for the start of his murder trial....

During her opening statements, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Maria McCarthy told the jury of mostly women: "The defendant married Noreen because he wanted to kill her and 27 days after he married her, he did just that. Noreen was nothing more than a pawn, a means to an end."

But they didn’t get the confession they were hoping for that day, with Rudd repeatedly responding to questions by saying he didn’t remember — including whether he struck Noreen in the head before she died, according to one of the officers who was present, Arlington Heights Det. Commander Richard Sperando.

Case said the Noreen’s head wounds were caused by “great force to the skull that fractured it in a very complex way. The injuries are easily recognizable.”

Dr. Robert Hurwitz contradicted the pathologists’ findings, saying his conclusion was that Noreen Rudd died of “internal decapitation,” a spinal injury that caused a part of her brain to be pinched and for her to stop breathing.
