GUILTY Il - Noreen Kumeta Rudd, 19, Newlywed, Murdered, Barrington Hills, Sept 1973 *arrest*

I couldn't view the article again to copy information from the last link because I got this message "You've reached your monthly free article limit." Hopefully YesOrNo can view it and copy some information for you.

Niner/Harmony- I have also reached my limit at the Chicago Tribune, but here's another article that has the same info:

Pathologist testifies head injury, not broken neck, killed 19-year-old bride

"... His trial continued Wednesday in Rolling Meadows with testimony from DuPage County forensic pathologist Dr. Hilary McElligott, who was hired by Kane County in 2013 to conduct an autopsy on Kumeta's remains....

Rudd recalled the 1973 accident in a videotaped interview, which jurors watched Wednesday. In it, Rudd is heard telling Sperando he swerved and hit something after a car approached them head-on.

"When I came to, she (Kumeta) was out. I reached over and held her," Rudd said in the interview. He did not tell Sperando that Kumeta was thrown from the car.

Also on Wednesday, defense attorney Timothy Grace made a motion for a mistrial after testimony from Kane County Coroner Rob Russell, who said Kumeta has two death certificates on file, per Illinois law. One lists her death as accidental, the other lists her death as a homicide. Grace requested a mistrial after prosecutor Maria McCarthy referenced former Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson, who was convicted of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, whose death was also initially classified as accidental...."

Man convicted in 1973 death of wife in suburban Chicago

Donnie Rudd was found guilty of first-degree murder Monday by a Cook County jury. He faces at least 14 years in prison for the death of 19-year-old Noreen Kumeta Rudd a month after they married.

Jury finds Rudd guilty of wife's 1973 slaying

McCarthy asked jurors to look at the entire picture of Rudd's life.

"Noreen died in a sleepy town. No one suspected anything," she said of officials' early assessment of what killed her. "This was a coldblooded crime. Noreen was no more than a dispensable object to the defendant. This defendant had no right to put a price on Noreen's head."

Wow- that was quick...

Jury finds Rudd guilty of wife's 1973 slaying (with clip)

"Jurors deliberated for less than three hours Monday before finding Donnie Rudd guilty of first-degree murder for killing his newlywed wife 45 years ago then staging a car crash to cover up the slaying.

The 76-year-old disbarred suburban attorney and former Schaumburg school board member had no visible reaction to the decision. He now faces a minimum of 14 years of prison when sentenced for the Sept. 14, 1973 killing of 19-year-old Noreen Kumeta...."

Wow - yes, that was quick! I noticed that the articles that I could get into didn't say "when" he'll be back for sentencing. Or did he get sentenced on Monday?? I couldn't get into the Chicago Tribune, that's blocked here per EU laws.... gaah!!

TIA!

He hasn't been sentenced yet- found this article, but it didn't say when he will be sentenced:

Ex-Lawyer Donnie Rudd Found Guilty For Wife's Murder In 1973

"...Rudd had been out on bond during his trial. That was revoked Monday, and he will remain in jail while he awaits sentencing."

Thanks YESorNO! Another paper I can't get into... I don't like these new EU rules!!!!!

Inexperience, indifference, deference. How Donnie Rudd almost got away with murder.

"The red flags were everywhere.

A teenager found dead along a rustic Barrington Hills road, just 27 days after marrying her 31-year-old groom following a whirlwind courtship. Physical evidence and injuries that didn't match the purported circumstances of her death. The $120,000 in life-insurance benefits she left behind for her husband, who promptly moved in with another woman.

So why did it take decades for anyone in authority to suggest Donnie Rudd murdered 19-year-old Noreen Kumeta Rudd?...

"The most important witness in the trial never testified, but spoke from the grave. Her injuries spoke for her," Assistant Cook County State's Attorney David Coleman said. "(Donnie Rudd) thought he got away with it, but time, science and Noreen caught up to him.".."

Donnie Rudd's future after guilty verdict in wife's '73 death: Prison — and another murder charge?

"Jurors who convicted Donnie Rudd last week of murdering his wife nearly a half-century ago were not told that he was also suspected in the shooting death of an Arlington Heights woman.

But the killing of Loretta Tabak-Bodtke in 1991 could be a factor in Rudd’s upcoming sentencing....

...while Rudd was working in the Chicago area as an attorney specializing in condo laws, he was also suspected — and even called before a grand a jury — in another killing, that of Tabak-Bodtke, who was 59 when she was shot to death in her home....

It’s unclear, though, if authorities will pursue charges against Rudd in connection with Tabak-Bodtke’s slaying now that he’s been convicted of killing the second of his five wives. ...

Rudd’s defense attorney, Tim Grace, said prosecutors cannot charge Rudd with Tabak-Bodtke’s death if they bring it up at his sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled....

Grace plans to argue for a new trial at Rudd’s next court hearing July 26...."

Thursday, July 26th:
*Hearing (@ CT) – IL – Noreen Kumeta Rudd (19) (newlywed/27 days married) (Sept. 14, 1973-reportedly killed in car accident. Plead not guilty. $4M bond. Out on bond.
If convicted, Rudd faces a minimum of 14 years in prison and an indeterminate maximum sentence, according to 1973 sentencing guideline. Also suspect in the April 4, 1991 murder of Loretta “Teri” Tabak-Bodtke (59). Rudd remains a suspect. In 1991, Lauretta Tabak-Bodtke, a client of Rudd, had threatened to file an official complaint against him to the Illinois State Bar Association. The next day, her husband found her shot to death in their kitchen. No charges have been filed on that case.
6/28/18 Update: Prosecutors rested their case. Trial expected to last through the end of the week.
7/2/18: After 3 hours of deliberations on Monday, jury finds Rudd guilty of 1st degree murder. Judge revokes bond & he was taken into custody. Waiting for Sentencing date no update as of 7/26.
7/26/18 hearing for Def. Atty Grace to argue for new trial; no sentencing date is scheduled yet.

So, nothing on what happened at the July 26th hearing?

edited to add: I can't read the article posted above.... due to EU rules!!

TIA if someone responds! :)

Motion for new trial in Rudd murder case

"27-Jul-18 – Found guilty of first-degree murder and waiting to be sentenced, a former Chicago condo attorney is asking for a new trial.

Dr. Donnie Rudd was convicted on July 2 of killing his wife, Noreen Rudd, in 1973. A motion for a new trial was filed by his attorney, Timothy Grace.

Arguments for and against this and other post-trial motions will be heard by Circuit Court Judge Marc Martin on September 13 but if Martin is not swayed, Rudd could be sentenced on that date....

If Rudd is sentenced, it will be under 1973 guidelines, which specify a minimum of 14 years but offer the possibility of parole.

Judge Martin has asked McCarthy and Grace for sentencing memorandums. A status hearing is scheduled for August 16."
