NV NV - Elko, near Devil's Gate, WhtFem 15-18, UP11310, 4" heeled 'La Fisa' clogs, Oct'72

Still no rule outs listed and DNA is still listed as unsubmitted. A few possibilities, none look particularly strong to me though: Debra Pscholka is a little young but the right height http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/p/pscholka_debra.html. Gloria Rieken is unlikely, but was almost 19 when she disappeared, blonde, and has a narrow-looking nose http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/r/rieken_gloria.html. Helen Allison has little information available http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/a/allison_helen.html. It's too bad there's no composite for this girl, with the way she's described she likely had a distinct appearance that somebody somewhere would recognize.

The average adult woman in the US wears a 7 1/2-8. I believe 6 is actually the first size that is considered 'adult'. I remember my boys being 5 1/2 and it being hard to find because it was kind of in between kids and adult.

At any rate, I'd wager to guess that the 'average' size for a girl 13-15 would be in the 6-7 range. Especially at 5'5". Although, I suppose that height could be off as they were missing quite a few pieces including the torso.

Her shoe size probably isn't as unusually small for her estimated height as most would think; it really just varies. For comparison, I'm a fairly small person myself and was even smaller at that age. When I was 12 I was 5' tall and wore size 2 shoes. Since then I've only grown two inches taller but now wear a size 6-6.5 depending on who's making the shoes. I know exactly what you mean about the difficulty of finding "in-between" sizes, later on I had that exact same issue once I outgrew the 2's but still didn't fit into the 6's yet.

There are three UID females found in Elko County rural areas awhile away from interstates I-80 or I-93 in the early 1970's that all share the same basic description: white, in their late teens or early twenties ,and had some variety of "reddish" (descriptions range between strawberry blonde and auburn) hair. The first, known as Starr Valley Jane Doe https://identifyus.org/cases/8358, was found July 14, 1972 shot to death and posed in a "cross-like" position http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/964ufnv.html. This girl was the second, found in October of that year. The third is Thousand Springs Jane Doe https://www.identifyus.org/en/cases/8359, who was found strangled and set on fire on July 16, 1974 http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/986ufnv.html. Curiously enough about 21 years after the first victim was discovered elsewhere in Elko County, another UID known as Shaftner Jane Doe https://identifyus.org/cases/4920 was found shot and posed in a "cross-like" position as well. She also is described as being in her 20's with strawberry blonde hair http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/125ufnv.html. I'm 5'2 and wear 6 1/2 shoes. BUT I also like to wear Converse and Doc Martens shoes, which are sized in men's sizes only, and I'm a 4 - 4 1/2 in those shoes. Could this be the case for this doe? Even my 5' mother has size 5 feet, 4 1/2 seems way too small.

It was definitely a women's size 4.5, the shoes were described as women's clogs with four inch heels.

Does anyone else think with the similarities between the victims that the cases could all be connected in some way?

Despite the different causes of death in each case?

Teeth were stained brown (white mottling) indicating victim was raised in flouride rich area.

Assuming this girl was born in the mid to late 1950s, it would be interesting to know which parts of the US were "flouride rich", naturally or by addition to the water supply, during thhe 1950s and 1960s.

Is there anything we, or someone higher up, can do to help get this done? IMO they had the samples sometime after discovery, in October, 1972. Right? However, she was not entered into NAMUS, until May 21, 2013.

Were they still working with those original samples? Or perhaps I missed their exhuming this UID to obtain more? Do we even know if, or where, she is buried?

I shudder to wonder, do they still have the sample? If so, I would gladly donate to their funding on performing work on Lab Samples. Just as here, at Websleuths. We need these samples completed. We need Websleuths to keep operating.

I hope we can provide this child with a name. It needs to happen!

That was going to be my question: is she buried? Can a drawing be done from the skull?

That is a great idea. Also, they could do an isotope analysis on her too. It might help narrow down the area where she was from.

This is a newly listed case in NamUs. I had not heard of this case before.

I don't have any solid possibles, but I started a thread because this is an early-1970's teenager UID case.

I initially thought Sherry Pickle seemed to be a very strong possible.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/p/pickle_sherry.html

Her height, age, and timeline are right there, and according to her Charley Project profile, she had "perfect teeth", meaning she hadn't had any dental work.

But although her hair is light-colored - it is not "golden colored". And she doesn't have "Extreme projection of upper teeth" or a "narrow projecting nose". She isn't Hispanic either.

Jamie Grissom had a lot of commonalities too.

She is the right height, age, and had golden colored hair. The timeline is slightly long but not too far off.

The distance is probably too far considering the circumstances. And as is the case with Sherry Pickle, she doesn't have "Extreme projection of upper teeth" or a "narrow projecting nose", and isn't Hispanic.

Extreme projection of upper teeth.

Looking at this again, it sounds as though this girl could have "eaten an apple through a tennis raquet" - as the saying goes.

If her buck teeth were so extreme, and clearly uncorrected by an orthodontist, what does or might this tell us about her background?

For a child or adolescent growing up in the 1960s, how common was it at that time for these sort of dental problems to be treated?

This talks about the basics of fluoridation and has some information about fluorosis: http://www.oregon.gov/oha/PH/HEALTH...Documents/Contaminant Factsheets/Fluoride.pdf

Fluorosis develops while the adult teeth are developing, from birth to about 8 years old.

Two states that definitely have high natural fluoride levels are Texas and Colorado. Looking at this map (https://rwsnblog.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/geogenic-map.png?w=648) of worldwide fluoride levels, it appears that most of the higher levels in the US are between the Rockies and the Mississippi River valley. There's also a high concentration along the Pacific Coast range in Washington and Oregon.

A kid who drank lots of water, swallowed fluoridated toothpaste while brushing, or otherwise ingested extra fluoride could also have been exposed to more than the allowed levels.

2-Oct-72
Elko County
Devil's Gate, 17 miles east and north of Elko, Nevada.
White Female Adult (WFA)
The victim's remains were found with some clothing. The remains were believed to have been in the Devil's Gate location for quite some time due to the condition of the body.
Skeleton presumed to be young female.
Evidence examination is pending by Elko County.

She is on this list: http://dps.nv.gov/uploadedFiles/dps...RCFemaleUnidentifiedDeadUnsolvedHomicides.pdf

Here they say she was white. Can't find a date on the list. I think it's from an earlier date then her Namus file.

Evidence examination is pending? What is taking them so long?
