It sounds as though Spedding's 10-page statement was probably taken by police well before January ... "soon after William went missing".
Then the police found inconsistencies, no doubt checked them out - grandma's phone activity, his phone activity and pings, witnesses at the assembly, staff and customers at Buzz Cafe, washing machine repair in Dunbogan at 2pm, check when the part for grandma's washing machine arrived, perhaps CCTV, whether he had or had not arranged to fix grandma's washing machine that day, whatever else we don't know about - then got a search warrant, then searched his home and business properties in mid-January.
"Mr Spedding took part in a 10-page recorded interview with detectives soon after little William went missing on the day the tradesman was due to fix the toddlers grandmothers washing machine.
As they checked out everyones statements about where they were on that Friday, detectives allegedly found some inconsistencies in what Mr Spedding told them which led them to raid his former pawnbroking office in Laurieton and his home at Bonny Hills this week."

The mother who wants her child back said she was informed by FACs in
December it was investigating Mr Spedding but would not tell her why.
The
same month Port Macquarie detectives tried to contact her, she said,
Police have investigated some alleged inconsistencies in what he told them about his movements on September 12 but have stressed the search of Mr Speddings home and business was just one line of inquiry and not a breakthrough in the baffling case.

A STRIKE Force including sex crimes investigators has been established following William Tyrells disappearance, five days after the three-year-old went missing near Kendall............................
Strike Force Rosann is based at Port Macquarie and includes detectives from the Mid-North Coast and Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command.
But it also includes officers from the State Crime Command and Forensic Services Group, in the strongest sign police are now focusing more on the investigation of how, or why, the little boy disappeared. The State Crime Command, under its Serious Crime Directorate, investigates sex crimes as well as disappearance cases.
A team of 30 specialist detectives and analysts has been searching for clues, doorknocking and scouring phone records. Theyve been interviewing known sex offenders in the area, in nearby towns and in caravan parks. Theyve hit a brick wall, too, Fehon says. There were reports someone had dropped into the local general store and asked for directions to Benaroon Drive. Fehon says they are glad to receive all information and have followed up all leads, but, t
ellingly, no alert has been issued about that person or their vehicle. If there was solid evidence, they would want to get it out to the public...............
Police said the investigation has been widened to include the possibility
that someone came in from out of the area who may know more.
We are appealing for anyone who saw any people or vehicles in the vicinity of Benaroon Drive or in the Kendall township on Friday to contact police.

Hes chided the media when questioned about the involvement of the sex crimes unit. Really, do the family need know that at this time? Hes tried to shield Williams parents, but he just cannot say the only words they want to hear. Weve found your son.
So he tells them what he tells me. We have a starting point, and that is the house. We are being totally honest in providing everything we can. We have uncovered no new lead to be able to say we have a new starting point.
It is baffling when you see from where it was he vanished. Its bewildering, too, in this era of electronic footprints, when a persons phone is their personal tracker, that someone can disappear without a trace and nobody, or no machine, has seen a thing.......
Williams wider family has been thoroughly investigated and interviewed, too. Their alibis have been declared sound they were hundreds of kilometres away when William disappeared

Homicide Squad boss Detective Superintendent Michael Willing said his investigators still had not determined what happened to the toddler, but had control of the case to ensure it was thoroughly investigated.
We want to do a thorough investigation to determine whats happened to William and obviously we need to consider the worst case scenario, Supt Willing said.
But we have no evidence to suggest any particular scenario at this stage.
