JUST IN - NSW Police have released footage of one of their own, Beau Lamarre, presenting himself to Bondi police station. He's been charged with the murder of Luke Davies and Jesse Baird

Andrew Macfarlane

Nice of him to turn up with his handcuffs on

But seriously, I always thought people walked in the front door and talked to the uniformed officers at the desk ..... but this looks like a garage, and the fact he is met by suits might mean he phoned ahead or something?

I just hope wherever they are, they're found.

This one hurts, and not just this couple's loved ones. First Fair Day gets canned because of asbestos, now a horrific double murder days before the Parade. I'm not going this year, haven't since COVID, but I did for twenty years. It won't stop the party, but it's sombering. It's a violation.

It's not a hate crime.

Well, no. But it's also complicated. NSW police have been brimming with questionable attitudes is the 70s and 80s, and sometimes brutish masculinity is linked to internalised homophobia and even self-denial.

Though I think this gentleman is more a narcissist, who even though he didn't come out until late, probably didn't even do so for the right reasons - it was a "celebrity" moment. His narcissism made this possible. But maybe a level of self-denial made him not care about consequences also.

NSW police are way more modern these days (even if Mardi Gras gets people protesting about them - I really don't think you can compare them to what they were in the 80s and 70s).

This guy is on his own.

I think I heard on the presser that it was pre organised with a family member, that would likely be his mother I would gather.

He seems to have forgotten that he has not only destroyed the lives and families of two young men, but his own family. <modsnip>

I hope his pressure from his mother will make him reveal the locations.

I never said it was. It doesn't have to be to rock and grieve the entire community at a time that should be about celebration and honouring those who volunteer to help our community be stronger and healthier. It's dissonance, to be grieving for other queer people being killed in February when we've been waiting for Gay Christmas.

Has it been revealed what specialist unit he was attached too?
He was claiming to others that he was going to be starting training for a unit that protected important people, but I do wonder if that was more wishful thinking than reality.

I heard from a friend in Sydney that Luke and Jesse had planned to move in together. They were in the beautiful and exciting phase of a newish relationship. It's devastating that their lives have been taken, and at such a happy/promising moment in their lives. Feeling for the friends and family

This is a better location map showing the scope of the area.

For scale in the inset circle, it takes just under two hours to drive from Paddington (Sydney) to Lambton (Newcastle). It's over 160km, driven mostly on motorways through national park and bushland with occasional small and large settlements.

Well, it was solved fast, which is good. Very sorry for two young and obviously, much in love, men whose lives were cut so short. As someone has pointed out, violence against men and stalking should be taken as seriously as against women. Condolences to the relatives and friends of Jesse and Luke.

Can we just for a second talk about how Lamarre is an absolutely terrible cop? Not because he murdered 2 beautiful men or the taser incident or his questionable celebrity chasing antics these all of course show he's a terrible cop but what kind of idiot shoots his ex with his service weapon leaves bullet casings behind hides bloodied evidence badly and thinks he can get away with it?? He had to know he was screwed

A lot of absolute plonkers I know have become cops.
