CA - Norma Lopez, 17, abducted & murdered, Moreno Valley, 15 July 2010 *Arrest*

I honestly had difficulty reading the last article linked, through tears.

I see Amber Dubois' mom attended the ceremony.

They said in the article it's 'unusual for something like this to happen in the middle of the day.'

I'm sorry, but it DOES happen that way. Gosh, it's been 47 years (she was 12) since my little sister was walking down a tree lined street in L.A. County, (meaning populated) on an early summer afternoon, just being released from summer school. She was attacked on the side of the road. Fortunately, she managed to get away and run to the nearest house. It seems this guy had attempted the same thing a number of previous times. He was NEVER caught.

It doesn't matter if you're old or young, male or female, if you're alone, you are vulnerable. Especially if there's no other pedestrians within sight. It only takes a few seconds, under the right circumstances, to be gone without a trace.

Everyone needs to be aware of their surroundings. Heck, my youngest is 22 and I still worry about her when she travels alone, walking or in the car. You don't need to be paranoid, just smart and prepared. (in the least, prepared mentally with a plan should you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.)

The photos of Norma's friends was heartbreaking. They've seen a horrible side of life at such a young age. This shouldn't happen to someone so young and promising.

Prayers to Norma's family and friends at this somber time. And prayers they find this monster before he hurts anyone else.

Sincerely,
fran

red and bolded by me:

Thank you so very much, my dd is 12 years old and her father has told me that I have made her scared and paranoid by talking to her about the cases I read here, your words are the words I tell him and her, don't be scared JUST BE AWARE I cannot stress this enough, it only takes a minute for something to become dangerous or out of control. These are lessons that are so very important, another thing I taught my daughter is to always carry something in her hand that she could drop, or try to loose a shoe... Sorry for the OT.

Norma is a beautiful young woman, this is such a horrific crime...my thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this time...

My thoughts and prayers are with Norma, her family and friends.
R.I.P. Beautiful Norma

There has been a potential break in this case. LE descended on a house yesterday and impounded a green SUV.

Riverside County sheriff's detectives served a search warrant and towed a green sport utility vehicle in connection to the murder investigation of Moreno Valley teenager Norma Lopez, it was reported today.
A green SUV parked at the home -- similar to a vehicle seen speeding from where Norma disappeared July 15 -- was towed Tuesday afternoon.
"No arrests have been in connection to the homicide," Borja told the Press-Enterprise.
The home on Pegasus is near Bay Avenue and Morrison Street, about three blocks from the field where authorities believe Norma was kidnapped July 15 while walking home from Valley View High School.

Tuesday, Eric Muswaswa was arrested for obstructing a peace officer during the execution of the search warrant, but he is not a suspect in the murder case, according to authorities.

No one has been arrested in connection with Lopez's death.
Lopez's father still believes that the murderer is someone who knew his daughter

Hmmmm. We shall see if he's not a suspect.

So glad there is progress in this case.

I hope they are close in making an arrest of this monster. Does sound like they mught have the right guy since he has a green SUV.

Court records indicate a Lazarus Tasby was arrested for disorderly conduct and prostitution in October 2009. Attorney Miles Clark did say Tasby was arrested for a misdemeanor, but wouldn't say for what.

Wait a minute.... was he arrested for prostitution or soliciting a prostitute?

It's not everyday you see a guy get arrested for prostitution.

That's an interesting charge.

1. Was he prostituting himself?

2. Was he soliciting a prostitute?

3. Was he prostituting out someone else?

Strange. Because isn't it usually different charges for all three, except if you prostitute your own self it's a straight prostitution charge?

It's too early in the morning here for me, I need another cup of coffee!

According to the KTLA article, soliciting a prostitute.

"Court records indicate a Lazarus Tasby was arrested for disorderly conduct and soliciting a prostitute in October 2009. Tasby pleaded not guilty and the case is pending."

He said much of the search focused on Muswaswa's stepson, Lazarus Tasby, 25, who was not home. Officers took several papers from Tasby's room, Clark said.

I'm glad they edited it to clarify...as it wasn't clarified when I posted last night.

That makes much more sense.

This might be the one.

Norma's sister Elizabeth said the family had seen security video of Norma walking home that day. There was a green SUV parked at/near the school.
An eyewitness saw a green SUV speeding off away from the field where Norma's purse was found.

Hoping, hoping, hoping it isn't crummy reporting and that they have the guy.

btw, here is Norma Lopez case archive album:
