Lots and lots of male friends and not many women around.
First I think he was super, super, emotionally immature, as he had all the toys that money can buy an emerging boy to man. The fast cars, planes, properties, travel, drugs, wild parties and money; everything a young person dreams of giving you a perfect life, he had wanted to enjoy.
Most of his friends are younger than he is, which does suggest he wasn't into growing up to quickly. And they most likely admired false glitter as much as he did.
His relations with women appear to be for his own sexual gratification or to impress friends. Another sign of immaturity as he could not select a female friend based on his own sense of values. They had to be drug addicted or girls that sell their bodies in exchange for superficial acceptance. Plastic connections.
Killing Tim Bosma was probably the only real thing he ever felt in his life.
As the women he associated with were empty beautiful shells with no goals in life just like him. Birds of feather flock together.
His boy/male friends allowed him to feel an adult, in control, and forever justified in seeking adventures and new experiences: but gave him no direction.
Thing is he F'd up, when he chose to venture into the world of crime. To leave the safety of trust funds, and false job titles that paid him well. He sought out a more real world of thief and murder to balance his life of easy living and privilege just for the high of knowing what it was like to feel alive.
That's my opinion.
