CANADA Canada - Montreal, WhtMale 20s, bright red hair, 'Michel' on bracelet, Jul'11

I wouldn't even know where to start to be honest, just find it odd we haven't heard any updates.

FORREST, Hal Gerald Raymond

Disappearance : 28 February 2005
Location Of Disappearance : Barrie, Ontario

Although Hal had always excelled in school, his behaviour had begun to change while at the University of Waterloo. He had become heavily involved in online gaming. His grades dropped and he began to withdraw from family.

After returning to live with his parents, Hal was having difficulties. On February 28, 2005, Hal drove his mother to work in the family car. When she returned home, she found a note from Hal saying that he was leaving to “find himself” and that the family car was parked at a Barrie bookstore with the keys inside.

Hal took his computer and some clothes but left all of his identification at home. Since then, Hal has not contacted family or friends. The Barrie Police Service and his family would like to locate Hal to verify his well-being.

What do you think? Could this be Michel?

From link.

Side by side of Hal and Michel: definitely very close. Hair and chin are very close. I'm not sure about the eyebrow ridge and eyes; Michel's eyebrow ridge is more prominent and his eyes seem more deeply set. But the light and angle are different enough that it could account for different appearance. Yeah, if Michel is still unidentified, Hal needs to be submitted.

Your right about the light being different casting shadow on the ridge and the angle being different, carbuff.

The shape of eyes seem to fit.

What stands out as especially similar are the cheeks, chin.

Nose could be, hard to see so far, but small nostrils in high contrasts so could fit the shape too.

Mouth, from a smile to a an inquisitive expression but similar again.

There is also a 6 year span between when Hal went missing to explain the difference in looks.... it looks to me like Michele is thinner a bit gaunt in face. Maybe with Hal being on his own maybe even homeless at times, It's possible he lost a lot of weight.

Ok, maybe a long shot, but FWIW.

I confirm that "Michel", the male name, is typically French. However, if this name was quite popular in France at my folks' generation, you don't meet many 20-something men with this name in the 2010's.

ETA : I think I remember having had a similar bracelet with chain, but I'll ask my mom.
AFAIK, upper-middle class families made such bracelets for their babies when I was a child.

However, even if his name strongly suggests French-speaking ties, he might not be of Quebec.

In my strong opinion, I would look in all the Canada. I know that outside of QC & ON, French-speaking folks are a minority.
However, AFAIK, French speakers are at higher number than in the '90s.
Some links. Yeah I know, Wikipedia !

Two Canadian gov websites, FWIW :

I agree that they are linguistic minorities, but I would not rule out Michel being of French mother tongue outside of QC & ON.

Also, in the '90s, you had French immigration in Canada, mostly in QC. However, some of them settled in English-speaking provinces.
Since our guy is a 20-something, I can see his parents being French-speaking immigrants, before our JD's birth or when he was a young child.

I also met French people with natural red hair this bright in Normandy.
Red hair this bright doesn't rule out French roots.

Might be too old, or already suggested?

BOULANGER, Jacques
Missing since

September 1, 1989

Way too old.

I know that the UID's pic is blurry, but UID has a very youthful skin, silk and smooth. Our MP's skin is much thicker.

Unfortunately, not a match for me.

Ok, so from the coroner's report, the police report says that the body corresponds of a guy who jumped from the bridge on July 2nd 2011. He was found on July 7th 2011.

Regarding red haired people in Quebec.

[h=1]'Revenge of the redheads': Ginger-haired Montrealers gather in celebration[/h]
Dozens of Montrealers assembled on Mount Royal Saturday to celebrate the natural glory of their red hair.

Beehives, bouffants, bobs and buns – all styles were welcome on the condition that the strands were coloured one of the 50-or-so shades of natural red.

The event offered the genetic minority a rare chance to be part of a majority, as under two per cent of the world’s population has the recessive gene on chromosome 16 that causes the mutation in the MC1R protein – or in other words, red hair.
Some estimates suggest that Quebec has one of the higher proportions of red-haired residents, as up to four per cent sprout glorious red and the shade has also long been known to be a more popular hair dye option in the province than elsewhere in Canada.
rbbm.

Per coroner report, the guy was witnessed to say someone : "Si tu as un téléphone, tu devrais appeler la police" (if you have a phone, you should call the police).

Our JD made his request in French.

Therefore, we must exclude any non French-speaking guy.

My issue is : did he speak French ? Could he converse fluently in French ?

Although, my brother didn't speak a lick of French before moving to Montreal and within two years he was pretty fluent. In Canada, we also take French in school from 5th grade to typically 10th grade and then you have an option to switch to Spanish. I speak a bit of French, but say I moved to Montreal, it would not be hard for me catch back up because of my French during school. Just saying, when looking at people who went missing 2+ years prior to UID's death, I wouldn't completely disregard a non-native French speaker.

The sentence he was overheard saying was easy for me to translate, and I'm from the opposite side of the country and the last French class I had was maybe 2002.
