Another vicious assault on a woman, this time in London,

http://www.lfpress.com/news/london/2011/01/19/16945281.html

I hope LE has interviewed the neighbour who is claiming to have placed a call to POLICE around 5:30 pm. I am wondering if that 'roommate" is the victim's boyfriend.
ITA with the person answering that comment: if it's a disturbing "noise" is better to call 911 directly. I hope the victim survives her injuries.
A neighbour claims to have placed a cal to LONDON POLICE around 5:30 pm after this woman's roomate left & no one came till her roomate came home to find her a victim & called 911.

Bumping back on topic for Sonia. I am hopeful that with 3 crime scenes, LE has someone on their radar and are tracking them as we "speak".

I included this link in the A.G. thread as well as here, who knows could be pertinent...

A popular dating website based in Vancouver has been hacked, leaving usernames, passwords, and e-mails compromised.

PlentyofFish CEO Markus Frind revealed the hack in a personal blog post Monday. He promised the security hole has been closed and all passwords have been reset.

Older link, lots to read.
The 36-year-old Mississauga man was arrested Saturday on charges of sexual assault, administering a noxious thing, sexual exploitation of a person with a disability and breach of trust.

He was also charged with criminal harassment in relation to an alleged stalking incident involving a classmate at McMaster University in 1998, Russell said.

I was searching unsolved murders/missing people from SW Ontario and came across an interesting post. A 15 yr old girl went missing in 1993 from a small town 1.5 hrs away from Orangeville. A man confessed to this murder and was charged in 2004, then the case was dismissed and thrown out with lack of evidence. Locals on this thread said it was a police cover up???? Anyway, there is a post regarding the guy that was originally charged with this murder, interesting coincidence regarding the date Aug 29th. The post I am speaking of is posted by "Marley". Could be nothing, but thought I would share.

Just some thoughts and observations that may have been discussed earlier in this thread, so forgive me if i'm going over old info.

Sonia had just returned from visiting her family in Bolton (don't recall reading if she was raised there, but am considering it could be the "family home"). It has been stated that Shelly Loder was raised in Alton. It's interesting to map out Bolton, Alton, Orangeville and Mono ... forms quite the triangle as it might relate to geographic profiling. Orangeville is pretty much the centre of the other locations.

I believe there has been some spec in many of these cases re POF, but am thinking that while Sonia (as a single female) may have been on POF, I doubt that Shelly (married, kids) was.

Sorr, can't really go anywhere with these minor thoughts; just find them interesting.

Sonia also went to high school in Brampton which is
only about 1/2 hour away from Bolton and Orangeville.

Delta police spokesperson Sgt. Sharlene Brooks said police believe the suspect did not know Szendrei and it appears attack was a crime of opportunity.

"Its very difficult to answer if it was random or targeted. There are two avenues in which someone could be targeted. Either specifically as a person or because an opportunity presented itself. And we believe an opportunity presented itself," said Brooks.

This obviously is a completely different case, but I am posting it because it was also a curious, violent crime and until now ,unsolved.

There are 3 crime scenes to Sonia's case. LE has to have something. Maybe they just don't have this murderer's fingerprints or DNA in the system yet. I am confident that this will be solved.

An arrest was made yesterday in this murder

I agree, I think they have all kinds of DNA evidence against this suspect but the problem is that the suspect has never been on their radar due to any relationship to Sonia, nor have they committed another previous offence that would have their DNA on file. Truly random as LE suggest.

LE pretty much have to wait for this person to commit another crime or for someone to come forward with their suspicions about this person to put them on the radar. Very frightening indeed.

I see the Orangeville police force is taking a beating regarding this and other cases though.

Orangeville police blasted in meeting

Local activists criticize the force for its handling of the unsolved murder of nurse Sonia Varaschin in her home last summer and the unsolved assault of photographer Shelley Loder of neighbouring Mono Township in December in her studio.

I almost missed this long, detailed and recent article!

"Shortly after this interview, the family refused to talk with the media and a police car was stationed outside the Bolton home where her parents live."

In a recent interview, a resident who lives near Beech Grove Sideroad, said she’s convinced whoever dumped Sonia’s body was “familiar” with that exact spot.

“Realistically, if you’re going to get rid of a body, why wouldn’t you have come up further and gone into the swamp?” said the woman who asked her name not be used. “There’s a massive swamp here and 80 acres of conservation.”

Like the neighbours near Sonia’s townhouse, the murder has left the quiet Caledon neighbourhood shaken, the woman explained, despite the excellent neighbourhood watch program in place.

“It’s affected us because this is a very quiet community and it’s very safe,” she said. “We have neighbourhood watch. Even though we’re acres away from each other, if there’s a blackout, within five minutes people are calling to see if everyone is OK and if you need anything.”

Another resident of the area, who too asked his name not be used, said as a man he personally hasn’t been that affected, but acknowledges women in the area are now more fearful.**

“I’m just disappointed,” he said, commenting on the fact there hasn’t been an arrest after six months. “It would be nice to get that idiot.”

Sorry 3 in row but this one is good!

2 .Man seen near Mono attack

Composite sketch. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man seen walking in the area near Shelley Loder’s home when she was attacked on Dec. 7.

The man is described as male, white, 27-32 years of age, average build and approximately 5'10". He had a round, clean-shaven face, fair complexion with reddish/orange hair that was short with a slight wave. He was wearing a dark, two-toned ski jacket and looked to be neat in appearance.

According to police, at this point, they want to communicate with this person to determine his connection, if any, to this investigation.

Police were called to Loder’s home, located on 10th Sideroad, just east of Highway 10, in Mono, shortly before 5 p.m. on Dec. 7. A family member had found the 44-year-old woman in her photography studio next to the house suffering from serious injuries. She continues to recover in hospital.

The OPP, under the direction of Det. Insp. Paul McCrickard of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and members of the Dufferin Detachment Crime Unit are continuing with their investigation of this incident.

Anyone with information about the man or the investigation can call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

from the above posted news article:

Pritchard announced during a Wednesday, Sept. 8 news conference the bed coverings had been recovered, but didn’t mention where

Am I the only one that missed this? or is this new-news?

I might be wrong, but weren't the beige sheets found where Sonia's body was found?
