KY - Breonna Taylor, 26, fatally shot multiple times by LE, Louisville, 13 Mar 2020 #2

Former Louisville Metro Police Detective Kelly Hanna Goodlett pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of conspiring to violate the civil rights of Breonna Taylor for helping falsify an affidavit for the search of her apartment that ended in her death in March 2020.

Goodlett is expected to be a star witness at the trial of two of her ex-colleagues, Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany, when they are tried on civil rights charges in connection with Taylor’s death. A third ex-detective, Brett Hankison, is also charged in a separate federal indictment.

What she did is despicable-----

It is inexcusable. But she agreed to cooperate. It will be interesting to see her sentence.

It is important that she is cooperating but her cooperation can never offset the damage
She has done--- without that phony warrant Ms. Taylor would still be alive. You just
Have to wonder about people's motivations.

If you need to lie or embellish to get a search warrant, maybe you shouldn't be getting the warrant. Do some more investigating. They probably could have gotten the warrant eventually anyway. But the lie was also just very stupid. Misrepresenting or making up what another government official says runs a good chance of being discovered.

Jaynes is a defendant in the federal case regarding the death of Breonna Taylor.

Specifically, Jaynes has been charged with federal civil rights and obstruction offenses for his role in preparing and approving a false search warrant on Taylor's residence.

Jaynes' lawyer filed a motion on Tuesday for a status conference with the following requests:
  • That the trial be moved from the Louisville Division of the Western District to another venue
  • That the case be declared complex, citing the United States' production of over 100,000 pages of discovery that need time to be reviewed
  • That the deadlines in the case be moved back given its complexity

ex-detective Brett Hankinson refused to provide a DNA sample, which prosecutors said is a violation of his pre-trial release.

In addition, Hankinson traveled to Las Vegas recently, which may also be a violation of his release on an unsecured bond of $50,000, meaning he only has to pay if he doesn't comply with the conditions.

During a hearing Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Regina Edwards ordered Hankison to comply with the request for a DNA sample and said she was going to talk with the probation office about Hankison's travel and "address that separately."

I never cease to be amazed at hoften defendants on bond conditions against travel without permission do it anyway and often make no effort to conceal it.

It also claims that Goodlett's partner, former Detective Joshua Jaynes, made the decision to bring the affidavit to Jefferson Circuit Judge Mary Shaw. Goodlett admitted she had heard Jaynes "make comments suggesting that he believed that Judge Shaw would not closely scrutinize his warrants," the document says…

In addition, Goodlett knew that the reasons Jaynes requested a no-knock warrant – because "these drug traffickers have a history of attempting to destroy evidence" and have cameras – was false in Taylor's case.

"The detective had no absolutely no reason to believe that Taylor was a drug trafficker, or that she had ever tried to destroy evidence or flee from law enforcement, or that there were any cameras around her property," according to the plea.

Jaynes has told police investigators he didn't intentionally mislead Shaw but acknowledged he could have worked the affidavit "differently."

Police officers certainly know which Judges to bring warrants to.
A no-knock was in no way necessary in this case and I really don't know why Jaynes was wanting it. In fact, the officers that actually carried out the warrant, decided to go ahead and actually knock because it seemed so low risk. But the justifications for no-knock listed by Jaynes didn't meet the requirements but the judge signed it anyway. There should be some consequences for the Judge not doing her job.

"Goodlett admitted that while she and Jaynes had a "gut feeling" that this was happening, when she asked him if he used his contacts at the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, he said something like "there's nothing there" and that Taylor's address had not been flagged". So tragic and unfair. So sorry for what these criminals did to you, Breona. So sorry

For months, protestors marched in the streets to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, with dozens of them arrested.

Former Louisville police Detective Brett Hankison is set for trial Aug. 21, 2023, on charges that he violated the civil rights of Breonna Taylor, her boyfriend and three neighbors on the night in 2020 when she was killed by another officer during a raid gone bad.

Hankison had been scheduled for trial next month, but during a pretrial conference Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Louisville, he waived his right to a speedy trial.

Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings said the trial could last as long as four weeks.

Hankison is charged with using excessive force by firing blindly into Taylor’s apartment on March 13, 2020, through a sliding glass door and a window that were covered by curtains.

Some good news. The Judge that signed the warrant lost her seat. While the fact that the warrant was a "no-knock" didn't really result in Breonna's death, it still should have not been signed. This incident showed that this was a lazy judge that was just rubber stamping warrants. That can't happen.

“You could hear the gunshots in the footage,” Johnson, 34, said Saturday. “Our dinner was completely hijacked. We couldn’t hear ourselves at that point.” She added, “It makes me nauseous to think about now.”

“It was extremely disrespectful disturbing and loud,” she wrote of the footage of the gunshots. “It was so loud and nobody wants to hear or see police footage, especially of the murder of an innocent Black woman while they are trying to enjoy their meal.”

omg wtf

The Republican Women’s Club of South Central Kentucky held a dinner event Tuesday at Anna’s Greek Restaurant in Bowling Green, Ky., for Jonathan Mattingly, a former sergeant with the Louisville Metro Police Department who was among the officers who conducted the botched no-knock raid at Taylor’s Louisville apartment in search of her ex-boyfriend.

The trial of ex-Louisville police Detective Brett Hankison on charges that he violated the civil rights of Breonna Taylor and four others the night when she was killed by another officer during a raid gone bad has been pushed back two additional months.

Expected to last three weeks, the trial was to begin Aug. 21, but on a defense motion, U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings Wednesday reset it for Oct. 30.
