Interesting - see how reports can differ! Do you have the link? Here's one from The Farmer's Almanac:
http://www.almanac.com/weather/history/MO/Kansas City/2011-10-04
Temperature
Minimum Temperature
55.0 °F
Mean Temperature
70.9 °F
Maximum Temperature
87.1 °F
Edited to add - here's the third, could this be the weather Tac was talking about?
Temperature
Minimum Temperature
46.9 °F
Mean Temperature
63.9 °F
Maximum Temperature
82.0 °F
If you find my original post on this...I talked about the temperature at the Lister home and said it would be within a degree or two.
Your link is for the Downtown Airport, not the Lister home.
Of course, it wasn't 87 that day so maybe the Almanac isn't giving info on a specific day but mean/median etc?
The Downtown Airport is south of the Lister location. Lister location would be a degree to two degrees cooler.
Since the NWS doesn't have a temperature location on Lister, you'd have to take the temperatures at Downtown Airport and KCI and compare those and come up with the difference based on known weather history. That's what my friend did to come up with 52
Like I said, it's all outlined in my original post.
KC is a big area. You can see 10-degree temperature differences in the immediate area. To get from Bonner Springs to Blue Springs is an hour drive. There can be inches of snow at KCI and a dusting where I live or vice versa.
A hail storm hit the other night. We were at dinner five minutes from our home. My car got hail damage. Hubby's SUV at restaurant didn't. That's cause hail was bigger at our home than restaurant even though literally a mile or two away.
So I found my original post:
The high temperature on Oct. 3 was 81 degrees. (fact) The low on Oct. 4th was 52 degrees (fact) so that would have been just before dawn.
Stands to reason it was certainly in the 60s by 10:30 p.m. Oct. 3. Hope this helps.
These temperatures were those recorded at KCI. North Lister is south and so typically would be a temperature or two warmer.

So guess the low temperatures on Lister was 53 or 54 not 52. And if 55 at Downtown airport makes sense. It's between those two temperatures.
There are more than one temperature location for the NWS in KC.
