possibly had a form of Down’s Syndrome”

What does that even mean? How can they be unsure or speak of a “form” of Down’s syndrome? There’s only one type of Down’s syndrome. It’s the result of having 3 chromosome 21s instead of 2. While this can be caused by different mechanisms, the resulting symptoms are the same (though they may vary in severity). As far as I know only mosaicism could potentially give fewer symptoms but mosaicism as a cause for Down’s syndrom is extremely rare.

In any case, they should know by now whether or not she had Down’s syndrome.

I’d like to know what exactly they based this diagnosis on... Because if it’s just based on her facial features, she may as well be of Mongolian descent (no offence).

There are 3 types of DS - one been Mosiac DS - many people with this type go through life not aware they actually have it!

I believe LCJD may have had very unique characteristics that are similar to Williams syndrome. 51% of people with the syndrome have unique, star like patterns in their eyes, making the blue eyes even lighter and shining. They also have spaced and shorter teeth, fuller lips, a longer distance from nose to mouth, a shorter upright nose due to a shorter bridge, and puffier eyes. People with Williams syndrome can also have smaller hands and feet and can be very outgoing and friendly, which means could have been manipulated easily. I do think the victim looks very unique and it could easily be the key to identifying her.

I recently submitted a match for her. I think DNA would have determined a syndrome, if true I believe it would have been posted on NamUs, would be easier to identify the victim.
Same hair line, blue eyes, right age, eyebrows, etc. the victims face looks swollen to me. or found facedown.

I must say there is a resemblance.

Welcome to Websleuths! And thank you for the insight. This seems like a plausible theory. I think she looks unique too! And certainly hope she can be identified.

I don't think the DNA testing they do on Does reveals things like genetic disorders. They take the DNA and match it to CODIS (or to GEDmatch etc in the case of genetic genealogy). They don't run it through Promethease or anything like that, and I don't think they have a gene specialist look at the genes to see if there's anything that would have caused a genetic disorder. If they had, I think they would have conclusively said if she had Down's Syndrome or not. Instead it's a 'possibility'.

They do autosomal DNA or if older, only MtDNA or Y chromosome testing. Down Syndrome would be easily traceable with a karyogram, but not sure if that is part of the testing. A karyogram is fairly easy, quick and not expensive. It seems, sometimes it is done (e.g. when they discover a female Doe with male DNA or when they look for DNA of a perpetrator) but sometimes it is not.

I was looking through her NamUs profile again and noticed something. I don’t remember seeing it before but probably just forgot about it. Does anyone know what a “ROCIC HUMP” database is??

Autopsy report and NCIC entry state that eye color is brown. ROCIC HUMP database submission form indicates eye color to be blue.

Apparently some local older database LE used. Not sure if its still around.

Eyes look very light to me but that is a recon... taken with a grain of salt.

ROCIC is Regional Organized Crime Information Center, but I have no idea what HUMP is.

Thank y’all! Yeah, I couldn’t find anything that matched that set of letters. I guess it would be the equivalent to NCIC, only regional.

Hump is their database for unidentified or missint persons
I guess a more regional and older database. Older than fluiddb
