Not sure if this makes any sense, location/story wise. Could she be Sherry Elizabeth Roach? Missing since 1978, would have been 30 yrs in 1989. Biracial, Native American/White. Brown, wavy? hair, blue eyes. 5'5 (JD 5'2 - 5'4) Attached earlobes. Sherry had pockmarks and crooked teeth. Is there something known about JD's dentals (sorry, if I missed it)

I don’t see a huge resemblance personally, but it’s not impossible. The only thing I’ve read about Doe’s teeth is that they were in pretty bad shape. Whatever that means.

Would it have meant that in 1989? Was meth an issue then (sorry as a non-American I'm not really sure when it really emerged as an issue). I lived in the US in the late 80s and don't remember it being a "thing" but then I was only in my mid-teens.

It's been a thing around the US, mostly in rural areas, since WW2 when it was used by the military to improve the alertness and performance of people like pilots and radar crews on long shifts. So a lot of returning soldiers came back with addictions. It got a boost from Vietnam combat veterans. Heroin and later cocaine were more popular but meth (usually called crank or speed in the 70's, not sure about the 80's).

But you're correct that it wasn't a really major issue. More of a chronic low-level problem.

If she had Down Syndrome, it would have been easy to diagnosis in 1989. It doesn't require a DNA test.
I wonder if the media said that based on the recon?
Certainly if they thought she had down syndrome, they could have performed the test on her blood back then.

Someone on reddit thinks it looks like fetal alcohol syndrome....However, we've all seen recons that don't look anything like the person in real life. She could just have swelling in her face.

Bad teeth in this case, probably indicate someone who neglected to have dental care. I think that is telling.

Just wondering if she really did have all the markers for FSA, as seen in the retouched PM version. And just, would like a clearer look at the facial swelling because of the indent at the right side of the forehead/scalp in the picture.

Really, she looks exactly like an acquaintance of mine. No Downs, no FAS... healthy woman. Thats just the way she looks like. She is American with Dutch and some East European heritage.
I would not read too much in a bad old morgue pic.

I've only seen the retouched photo, I'm sure there is a non retouched photo out there but most likely only LE's hands.

You might ask @CarlK90245. Because he does the reconstructions, he sometimes gets pictures the rest of us can't see.

I read a FB post from a case insider. There was a fairly large facility nearby for the developmentally delayed nearby and they thought maybe she came from there and that is why the Down Syndrome thing started.

Investigators quickly ruled it out, but once something is put out in the media, it seems to remain permanently.
