New York couple commit suicide, leaving two adult children behind

Mr Scarpelli's was typed (and I think this report shows a photo) (** ETA Sorry, everybodhi linked this above! Just realized)

"Older/cached" NYPost report:

"His wife also had a suicide note in her pocket that read, “in sum and substance,” according to a source, “‘Our kids are upstairs, please take care of them.’”"

Did they/the children live in the office building?? I'm confused. The current (first NYPost link above) states:

"Records show the couple, who lived in the Financial District, were drowning in debt and slammed with dozens of tax liens from both the federal and state government."

I don't live in NYC but I've been there many times. And, from what I know... Where they jumped and "Financial District" aren't the same areas of NYC. Am I wrong about this??

“‘Our kids are upstairs, please take care of them."

I am so confused, in different articles references to the their children as if they were small and the quote from this one sounds like they need someone to care for them...but reports say the children were adults. Fund raising going on for children...possibly the children are disabled or something...? I honestly don't know what to think. Most suicidal people are so depressed they think their family and friends will be better off without them; and say so often in suicide notes. If there was so much concern about their children why on earth would they commit suicide? This one just seems odd to me.

Children aren't disabled. Both went to private school and I believe both are now in college.

Confusing, I agree.

I simply can't figure out why the children were upstairs.

Maybe they (all or some) lived in this office building rather than their home address? Or maybe they were working "upstairs" in the office building? Or maybe the NYPost simply had a bad source, thus did not include this info the "update" to the report.

Lawd.. Live within your means people! I live in Orange County CA and see way too much of this mentality. I'm really sick of seeing people always having to impress everyone and trying to "keep up with the Joneses" and end up over their heads. And because of it, this couple's children have lost their parents in a most disturbing way. For the rest of their lives their kids will grapple with the pain and probably even guilt. Ugh.

They both wrote (typed) suicide notes from what has been reported, attributing the suicide to financial issues. I fail to see why I should assume there was some other reason and not the one they listed themselves. Financial stress is not an uncommon reason for suicide.

Its called trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Now Midtown Manhattan is more expensive to live and operate a business than most places in the United States.

So simply move and live life. Jmo.

Oh wow, that's been confirmed? I haven't seen that. How awful.

No, no no! That was just me stating my opinion! I will edit!

Oh and I love how the media immediately ran with the headlines stating they did it because of the politics of current and impending healthcare. Disgusting.

Part of that whole mentality, sadly. Some adult children that are raised in that sometimes spoiled "keeping up with the Joneses" lifestyle are coddled, and not seen as (or can function as) adults.

This is the first time I've read this-

He volunteered after 9/11 & worked with police and fire fighters...

"Scarpelli did have one blemish on his seemingly noble family unit."

"His father, Joseph Scarpelli, served 18 months in federal prison for taking bribes from a developer to gain approval for construction projects while serving as the Brick Township Mayor in New Jersey, reports say."

http://nypost.com/2017/07/29/man-who-jumped-to-death-helped-hundreds-of-911-volunteers/

TWO NOTES
"Police say they each had suicide notes that referenced financial problems."

I read that he had state and federal tax leins. Does that mean he owned property?
I don't know.

Dr. Glenn Scarpelli operates a joke of an office along with his wanna-be model wife and office manager Patricia who is arrogant, rude and obnoxious to the guests. As soon as you walk in you are hit with the pungent smell of incense that you are forced to breath in. The Official Manager "Patricia" is phony & pretentious and the doctor walks around in his socks, which is so unprofessional. he doesn't give "full" adjustments but only adjusts whatever - and this is what he says - "God tells me what to do for today." He talks about Jesus and God throughout the adjustment and professes that "They" (the Gods) dictate what he should adjust - meaning he could care less what you are complaining about. This is the biggest joke of a chiropractic office I have ever stepped foot into and I strongly advise anyone with serious back issues to AVOID AVOID AVOID.

On a referral, I tried scheduling an appointment after calling several times. The fellow who kept answering was very disgruntled and difficult as he was reluctant to set up an appointment or even take a message. When I got hold of the receptionist, she informed me that the one chiropractor in the office works regular hours of only 3 days a week? She insisted that his busy schedule was due to a significant client base? Somehow that didn't make sense when the only chiropractor was so unaccessable, so I googled him before committing. According to the NY Civil Supreme Court records case #117950/2005, a Jennifer Cole has a malpractice suit against the chiropractor, Glenn Scarpelli! Must be spending all his time in court. Glad I passed.

There are a few very unhappy reviews. As they see themselves as a husband a wife healing team, I don't know how they would reconcile both having major health problems. Had they tried, and failed, to heal each other?
This is weird.

I'm not buying the truth of this story.

Compare these two photos. In the first there is apparently a body lying covered by a white sheet with one end touching the white painted line on the road. In the second photo the same place on the road shows absolutely no signs that a body had landed there after a fall from such a height.

I think reports of major health problems were erroneous.

was anyone else intially confused with the the kids are upstairs comment

they were not upstairs were they - they were in a different building no?

I would think parents would know that there kids were not "upstairs" in building they are dead in front of?

Either it was bad reporting.

Or they planned to jump from their apt building in the financial district.

Or she forgot where her children were.

IMO, typed suicide notes are worrisome.

That is because in this photo, the individual in the middle of the street is being lifted by the black body bag, and the white sheet was moved :moo: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/07/28/17/42C6521C00000578-4739512-Police_covered_the_bodies_of_the_couple_with_sheets_while_they_s-a-92_1501261186240.jpg

MOO: Whomever was the murderer planned the murder suicide to take place at the home, but couldn't pull it off. (Victim wouldn't go close to the window- some unknown security feature on the window the murderer didn't plan on...) so Plan B and no time to change the notes. But how does one get a victim to place a suicide note in their pocket?

What I really want to know is how far apart- time wise- they both 'exited' the building?
