NY NY - Bronx, WhtFem 25-45, UP8073, needle tracks, multiple tattoos, clothes, Mar'90

If no has called in Leann Faulk, I will, just don't want to steal kpdx's thunder.

Just called Leann Faulk in for a possible match. Can't believe that a medical examiner has so much info about tattoos but doesn't have any pictures of them? These could have helped find out this woman's identity so much faster.

whereareyou, your submission has at least produced some immediate helpful updates in her Namus file.
Leann Faulk is ruled out.
Several photos were added.

Sad that we didn't have a match but glad that they added the pictures, I kind of gave the lady I talked to a hard time about that. Now I can see why there isn't a match between her and Leann and the tattoos. Maybe we need to be more "mouthy" and the ME's will give more info and photos. I went back to the link and didn't except to see a post mortem picture at all! I wanted to see the tattoos but all of this helps. I really hope that we can find her name and get her back with her family.

The tattoo they have it down as Crazy Track on Namus.. but it looks to me like "Classy Trash" in script Classy_Trash_Tattoo[1].jpg right of chest. From the looks of it she had the tattoo a while because it looks like the letters had bled into each other.

Below is a list of the few people who had tattoo parlors in NYC in the 1980s. I wonder if any of these guys were ever shown the photos of the tattoos??

Also Mike McCabe and Mike Bakaty are on the list I wonder if either one did her tats and if one of them is the Mike on her arm. Mike_Tattoo_Left_Thigh[1].jpg Just a thought.

Was tattooing ever illegal in New York City?
In 1961, the city council passed a law making it illegal to tattoo in NYC. As a result, by the 1980s there were very few tattoo shops. There was only Mike Bakaty on the Bowery, Mike McCabe on 5th Street shared a studio with Cat, Jonathan Shaw was in and out of LES, Darren Rosa in Washington Heights, Tom DeVita on the LES, Angelo at Champion in the Bronx, Tony Polito in Brooklyn, Coney Island Freddy in Staten Island, Mick Perfetto Brooklyn, Huggy Bear Brooklyn, Tattoo Al Queens, and maybe a few others. *

Even though New York City banned tattooing in 1961, that didn't stop Mike Bakaty from opening his own parlor. As the original owner of Fineline Tattoo, the New Yorker illegally set up a shop in a loft on the Bowery in 1976, where he began building up his clientele during the height of the city-wide tattoo prohibition. While tattooing was fully underground at the time, the vibrancy of the subculture remained intact through people like Bakaty, who kept honing his craft despite the possible legal ramifications. In 1997, when the ban on tattooing was lifted, Fineline remerged into the mainstream as a storefront in the East Village, where it still stands today at 21 First Avenue.

This woman was murdered in 1990 and not ONE picture was posted of her since then. All those tattoos and now knowing that they had pictures and couldn't even post one of those? That's what I was snarky with them about. I'm not a very good sleuther but I really hope that I have helped in someway trying to give her name back.

The UID's tattoos look like they were done by "scratchers" (usually done in a home and not professional). When I was arrested they took pictures of all of my tattoos, I'm wondering when police started doing this? I'm thinking that if she was found with track marks she probably had a criminal record and would have pictures of her tattoos if they took them like they do now. I was told mine were taken for identification purposes. Is there a way that police can run a scan of sorts and brings up a picture of a tattoo and match it to a person?

My own opinion but the postmortem looks a lot like Kimberly Thompson to me. Ya know, we may feel like we're being a burden calling these in but at least we're getting rule outs.

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1158dfca.html does not mention tattoos but mentions track marks and stats seem to fit

The building where she was found on the roof has been an apartment building since 1925. Wonder if maybe she lived there -- if not, her killer probably lived there or knew someone who did.

Jane Doe was clearly an addict who had fallen onto hard times, so she could have lost a lot of weight (+ added tattoos) since she went missing.

This Jane Doe had 12 tattoos in an era when tattoos were illegal in NYC so there were not many shops around. Also it was a time when tattoos were not very common on women and 12 that is a lot. I was thinking, could this woman have been reported missing years earlier with one or two of her tattoos or maybe even none?

I also noticed in her profile on Namus it says Multicolored Bat or Butterfly, so it could be either. I also noticed CRAZY TRACK is listed But in reality her tattoo says CRAZY TRASH. I am listing the tattoos in bold with my thoughts next to each one. so its easier to understand.

1.multicolored tattoo on left forearm we don't know what it is. wish there was a description

2. multicolored tattoo right forearm; we don't know what this is either.

3. black dragon on left back, All black tattoos are used a lot on cover ups this could of been something else.

4.multicolor bat on right back, this is also mentioned as a butterfly and I noticed its mostly black could also be a cover up.

5. multicolor cross and ''In memory of Chino'' on right arm, too long to post here see info on the end of the list.**

6. multicolor rose with a name on right forearm,
Name is not mentioned what name nor there is a photo. this could be a clue!

7. ''Crazy Track'' and 4 red hearts on right chest, Crazy track is actually an error see photo it says Crazy Trash

8.multicolor sailing ship on left arm,
there is a photo of this

9. ''Mike'' on left thigh, there is a photo of this

10.multicolor cat on right calf,

11. letters and heart with arrow on left shin No mention of what letters nor there is a photo.. This could be another Clue.

12. unicorn below left thumb.

**Thoughts on #7 could she have been a girlfriend of someone in one of the old school gangs at one point. I noticed Crazy Trash and thought everyone had different names given to them... I know the guys had names given to them and that is what we called them and they used to graffiti them on the sides of buildings and the trains. Some of the girls had names which were not their own also. I know I did.

**Thoughts on #5. I have been searching through old gang photos and info and came across a member named Chino from the Dirty Ones which at some point dies and there are some blurbs on this page saying rest in peace on the links below. Could this be the Chino?.. its not That common a name. Could she have been originally from Brooklyn. But then again there were gangs in the Bronx also.. could of been from there.. Just what caught my eye was the rest in peace Chino.
