Thank you for the information, blue! The biggest confusion I have over DNA testing is how it is done. Like if it is a constant process, computers running seeking matches all the time or what. What does it mean to re-enter data? Is there room for human error in the data entry process?

On the off chance this happens to be Angela, does this mean that other rule outs on other cases need to be re-done? I still think she looks like Eileen Hynson...but...the ages don't match. Thanks!

Hi all,

On http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/mpch/unidentified.htm#;view=Details;/Poster I saw Cali mentioned and the description differs from NamUs and the DoeNetwork:

DoeNetwork - http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1ufny.html
Distinguishing Characteristics: She had curly brown, shoulder length hair which had been frosted about four months before her death. The frosted hair was in the process of growing out. She had brown eyes. She was tanned and had visible bikini lines. She had no distinguishing marks. The victim had had no broken bones that would have been in a hospital's records. It didn't look as though she had received much medical attention of any kind.

NamUs - https://identifyus.org/en/cases/6583
-1/2" scar on forehead at the hairline
-1" scar on front left shoulder
-1/2" scar on outer left ankle
-tiny scar on left knee, right knee, top of right foot, right ankle, inner right thigh
-skin defect that is 3"x1" that resembles an old burn scar on inner right thigh
-Z shaped scar on right shin
-1/2" scar on left forearm
-3 small scars on left index finger
-small mole about 1.5" below outer corner of left eye

Texas DPS - http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/mpch/U...nt.asp?id=U9212001&Person=Unidentified Person
She had pierced ears and a small mole or birthmark on her lower lip, just left of midline.

This Jane Doe does have the birthmark on her lower lip but why is it not mentioned anywhere else? It also does not show up on most reconstructions?
Also, Judith Ann Elwell is not in NamUs, I hoped her DNA would be on file for comparison.

When I read the parts about the moles I decided to look at the pictures again and compare them, I'm not sure but it does look like Judith has the small mole below the outer corner of the left eye and moles on her lower lip:

Maybe someone else can look at the pictures and tell me I am going crazy? I hope that Cali will get her real name back some day.

With love, Milou69

I do not see her ruled out. Was it ever submitted?

Here's the quote from annemc2. I am trusting annemc2's judgement that the source regarding isotope analysis was "trustworthy".

The discussion of the pollen analysis for Cali's case is detailed in this link, pages 17 through 21.

http://projects.nfstc.org/trace/2009/presentations/3-bryant-palynology1.pdf

Here are the relevant slides from the presentation:

Thank you so much!
I don't know if it would be helpful to make a starting from scratch type thread. Add her info; this info; whatever can be found on testing the teeth; then figure out who's missing in those areas.
If you got my PM; the teeth testing (mentioned below) is on that case.

I received some information from a trustworthy source that Cali's teeth were analyzed to determine their oxygen isotope ratios and the results from this were consistent with her growing up in the SW US and some other places in the world. (for a good overview of this analysis read here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11421593)

The O2 isotope ratio technique can not be considered precise, but can be used in conjunction with other pertinent information. Consider this slideshow prepared by one of the world's leading palynologists, VM Bryant (straight out of Aggieland). The content in general is fascinating, but pay close attention to slides 34-42. Entitled "Jane Doe Murdered in Upstate NY" the slides show the process of extracting the pollen from Jane's red jacket and brown corduroy pants. Pollen clues extracted from the clothes are detailed, and Bryant's expert hypothesis on where the Casuarina originated is provided. Check it out: http://projects.nfstc.org/trace/2009/presentations/3-bryant-palynology1.pdf

Did the Smithsonian do the testing on the teeth? Did LE do anything after the results? Articles? I ask because this is being done on another case I'm working; LE seems to think it will blow the case open :(

We're discussing this on another JD case. CarlK posted this in another thread- if you click the little blue arrow; it goes back to the original post.

Tavia Bailey is in CODIS, as is the UID. So with Tavia, you have a rule-out by default.

Kimberly Moreau's NamUs DNA page says "Sample Submitted Tests Complete", which usually (but not always) means it's in CODIS. But as I illustrated on page 2, her teeth look different from what is depicted in the facial reconstruction.

Madeline Ponds also indicates "Sample Submitted Tests Complete"

If someone tackles a starting from scratch thread; this would be good info to add to it.

The comparisons that are in CODIS are run automatically, but apparently sometimes it will fail to signal a legitimate match. So if there's a match with strong similarities, they'll make the comparison by hand to make sure it wasn't falsely rejected, just to be sure.

Was this ever sent in? I think it's worth it! I wonder why Judith is not in NAMUS? So that would mean no DNA to crosscheck either?

Well, I received a response back from Major Burgess (that was fast!), and unfortunately they have ruled out Angela Ramsey as a match. On the bright side, they're at least able to narrow down the possibilities by one.

Judith holds a stunning resemblance-has this been sent in yet?
And I am glad Angela was ruled out, one less to check!

Based on the physical characteristics and the long list of rule outs. It seems that they are very few possibilities but these are the best that I can find.

Cindy who disappeared in 1977, was my top choice as had a groin tattoo that perhaps became the scar on Cali. However she also has hazel eyes - don't know how definitive the eye color determination of brown is. And she had broken her arm (not noted on jane doe)

The others all disappeared in 1979 and are similar physically but have minor discrepancies in scars and marking that may rule them out. Evelyn may have been pregnant but would not have been by November.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone know if Judith Elwood was ever submitted as a possible match??

There's a software application called Facegen that creates 3D renderings of faces from input of two to three photos (One frontal, and one or two profile-views). The 3D image can be rotated 360 degrees horizontally, or rotated straight up or down. The contours don't come out 100% perfect, but it comes pretty close.

It is advertised online with a free trial, but the trial product produces an end-product without hair, and with a company logo on the forehead. If you pay about 600 dollars, you get two separate applications that produce a finished product with hair and without the logo.

Using the free product, I produced this of Caledonia Jane Doe several months ago.

Does Cali have a mark on her chin under her lip or is the an optical illusion?

The Charley Project has report that Barbara Ann Hilton missing 1972 had been located, but no further details have been released. Does anyone know if this relates to our Angel here? Or what happened with her?

The NamUs profile for Caledonia Doe is still active with another rule out (Eileen Hynson) and fingerprints added this morning. I guess it's not her.
