Ex-boyfriend of missing Shelby woman now charged with kidnapping, deputies say

from the article: "A search warrant was executed at the home and deputies said after processing the evidence and consulting with the Richland County prosecutor, they obtained an arrest warrant for Mack for kidnapping."

I'm sure curious what that evidence was.

Man wanted in disappearance of Richland County woman

Any idea why U.S. Secret Service would get involved in the case?

John Henry Mack is a truck driver; he has not shown up for work.

On Tuesday, Lisa Davis and Melinda Davis’ current boyfriend, Jamie Barnes, spent the day canvassing truck stops and rest stops along area highways passing out flyer with pictures of Davis, her 2013 black Volkswagen Jetta with Ohio tag number JGZ8921, and Mack.

“With him being a trucker places like this where you can come shower — I guess if there are truck stops where you can lounge, if it’s life on the run. If that’s what he’s doing,” said Barnes.

This is getting worse... John could be anywhere by now.

Oh noooo. I'll check the Trucker's Missing Child Project and see if they've posted or will post Melinda's flyer.

Glad to see this being reported now:

... When Davis didn’t show up for a prearranged breakfast date with her niece, her family knew something was wrong and reported her missing to Shelby police officers.

“They asked us to go out to his residence and do a welfare check and see if he knew where she was, so we go to the residence and we can’t find him or her,” said Zehner. But deputies found enough evidence to issue an arrest warrant for Mack for kidnapping.

ETA: Also requested Trucker's Against Trafficking to share her flyer.

Niece urges kidnap suspect John Mack Jr. to turn himself in to law enforcement

March 2
The niece of the man suspected of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend Melinda Davis is urging her uncle to turn himself in to law enforcement.

Whitney Mack, 24, who was living at the Cliffside Drive home with her uncle John Henry Mack Jr. for the past couple of months, said she was not home but stayed at the Mansfield-Richland County Public Library on Feb. 25, the day Melinda Kay Davis went missing.

"John, turn yourself in. It has affected both families because we need answers and we care for both of you," Whitney said Tuesday in a phone interview with the News Journal.

"Obviously someone is missing and four children are missing their mom. There are 10 kids involved between the two of them. She has four; he has six children... for the children's sake," she said.

Whitney said she is here visiting family and is going to school in Mississippi and keeps her things at Mack's house.

She has not heard from her uncle since Thursday morning. She urged him to call the Richland County Sheriff's Office.

The United States Marshals Service has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspected kidnapper.

The US Marshals released a flyer on Tuesday morning offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of 43-year-old John Henry Mack, Jr. Authorities have been searching for Mack since February 25th, when his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Melinda Kay Davis, went missing. Davis had reportedly planned to visit Mack's home to retrieve some personal belongings on the day she disappeared. Attempts to reach either Davis or Mack have failed.

Deputies: Man accused of kidnapping Ohio woman has Alabama ties

U.S. Marshals are searching for a missing Ohio woman and the man wanted in her kidnapping.

Etowah County authorities believe Mack has family in the Gadsden area.

US Marshals looking for kidnapping suspect, may have family in Gadsden area

Federal law enforcement are searching for a suspect in a kidnapping case who may have relatives in the Gadsden (AL) area.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of a known fugitive is encouraged to contact the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at: 1-866-4-WANTED

I can understand FBI involvement, but I don't know that I've ever heard of U.S. Marshalls being involved. Is this unusual?
US Marshalls are the number one agency involved in apprehending fugitives. The FBI investigates and arrests but as far as fugitives, its the US Marshalls. My guess is they were brought in once he had an arrest warrant as he is now a fugitive.

I’m guessing the FBI investigating the murder and the Marshalls are trying to track him down.

How awful - four kids - I’m glad she seems to have a loving family - those kids are going to need someone to care for them.

[...]

Officers from the NOVFTF, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, and Mansfield Police arrested him without incident in the area of East 1st Street and South Adams Street, according to the U.S. Marshals.

Sheriff Steve Sheldon stated, “The task force has been operating for over 10 years in the Mansfield area and cases like this are exactly why we will continue to work with our local and federal partners.
