Spain - Lisa Brown, 32, San Roque, 4 Nov 2015 *Arrest*

Well, this is disappointing.

SIMON Corner will be released after a Spanish judge has shelved the probe against the prime suspect in the Lisa Brown murder case.

Judge Garcia Ramila made the shock decision today after Corner was arrested at London Heathrow airport last week after going on the run.

The judge acted after state prosecutors requested he ‘freeze’ his two-and-a-half year investigation into Corner despite the expat making himself a fugitive by going on the run after he was given bail by a court in San Roque, Cadiz.

The 35-year-old will now not be extradited to Spain to face trial over Lisa’s disappearance.

He will be set free from his London cell where he has been held since last Monday.

It is believed he fled Spain around Christmas-time, but was only made subject of an international arrest warrant in March this year.

He was then detained at Heathrow Airport as he got off a flight from South America last Monday.

Judge Garcia Ramila said on the decision to release Corner: "This court has serious doubts Simon Corner is the person responsible for the crimes of homicide or unlawful detention being investigated."

Five other people - four British men and a woman, thought to be Spanish, who were under investigation on suspicion of obstruction of justice - have also had their bail conditions lifted by the same Spanish judge and told they are free to go.

Speaking exclusively to the Euro Weekly News, Lisa’s sister Helen Jordan said, “We are still shocked that this decision has been made after all the hard work but it’s not over by any means.

“We were actually speechless when we heard the news.

“We don't take anything for granted but we didn't expect this.

Helen added, “This is a set-back but won't stop us, the investigation will still be continuing to find the truth.

“We're thinking positively... we have to or we would have given up long ago.”

Tony Tomillero – the father of Lisa’s 11-year-old son Marco – has told his lawyer to appeal last month’s ruling on the long-running probe.

Lisa, 32, originally from Alexandria in Dunbartonshire, vanished on November 4, 2015, from her home in Guadiaro near Gibraltar and is presumed dead by Spanish authorities.

Tony’s lawyer also wants Simon Corner and five others arrested after Lisa’s disappearance to face formal charges and prosecution if the appeal is accepted.

Judge Javier Garcia Ramila will now be asked to accept the appeal and make expat Corner his prime suspect once again.

Corner, originally from Liverpool, who had to be hauled back to Spain twice on European arrest warrants to face court quizzes about Lisa’s disappearance, has been told he is free to leave Spain while the appeal is decided.

Spanish judge ordered to reopen probe against ex-boyfriend of Lisa Brown
Three judges at a higher provincial court in Cadiz, south east Spain, ordered the court in San Roque which led the investigation against Corner and five other people over Lisa’s November 2015 disappearance to reopen the case.

The decision was taken last month following a behind-closed-doors hearing, but was only made public.

The three appeal judges ruled a mobile belonging to Corner should first be fully analysed, more than two years after police obtained authorisation to get a specialist data recovery firm to look at it, before the decision on charges and prosecution is made.

Sister Helen Jordan wrote on the Find Lisa page, set up by her relatives shortly after she vanished: “Another Christmas without Lisa and it gets harder.

“Marco has missed out on so much and although he has us of all, it will never make up for what he’s lost.

“His whole world was turned upside down and his life changed forever. He has went through more pain than some adults do in a lifetime and he's only eleven.”

In a thinly-veiled message to the people Lisa’s family hold responsible for her disappearance, she added: “So while you lot celebrate Christmas with your loved ones remember the mother that you took away from her child, and the boy that wishes things could of been so different.

“I hope you never have a moment’s peace and see their faces every time you all close your eyes.

“Don't think for a moment we have forgotten about you. Everyone continues working so hard to put you where you belong.”

Dean Woods - aka Simon Corner - arrives at court in San Roque, Spain

A man suspected of being linked to the disappearance of expat Lisa Brown has been convicted of trafficking cocaine.

Dean Woods was part of a gang of six men who supplied the Class A drug.

He pled guilty to his role in the conspiracy after police raided a series of addresses in a crackdown on organised crime.

[...]

It is believed that new information could emerge if Woods spends time behind bars.

The source said: “The family are pleased Woods, or Corner as he was known in Spain, is off the streets but they’re still struggling to come to terms with losing Lisa and believe Woods knows what happened.

“Everyone hopes that this could somehow lead to some sort of breakthrough.”

Lisa vanished in Spain more than four years ago.

She was in a relationship with Woods at the time of her disappearance from Guadiaro, near San Roque, in the south-west of the country.

Woods, 37, long suspected of being involved in the disappearance of his Scottish girlfriend Lisa Brown in southern Spain, was one of six to be sent down.

The Merseyside criminal group has been sentenced to a total of 86 years after flooding the streets daily with Class A drugs across, Wrexham, Bradford, Bolton, Newcastle and London.

They also had access to guns and ammunition.

I've no idea how these things work but 2.5 years into a 12 year sentence seems a bit early for day release.
