‘Horrendous scene’: Six dead, including suspect, after Vaughan condo shooting
The suspect is dead after an interaction with police at the condo building at 9235 Jane Street, the SIU said.
''Police were called to the building in the area of Jane Street and Rutherford Road around 7:20 p.m., said police spokesperson Const. Maniva Armstrong.
They found between five and seven victims. “The exact number is not known at this time,” said Armstrong, noting police were still in the process of searching the building.
An officer speaking with residents outside the building said they’re clearing a path inside for displaced residents to return to their units. A handful moved into the lobby to keep warm while they wait.
Two women standing behind the police border told the Star late Sunday night that they haven’t been in their units for eight hours.''
"Investigators located a woman that had been shot in the face, police said, later discovering other victims.
Police Chief Jim MacSween confirmed that six people were killed in the shooting, including the suspect, who was fatally shot in an interaction with officers.
A seventh victim was rushed to a hospital.
“Horrendous scene,” MacSween said on Sunday. “There is no further threat to the community at this point. We offer our sincere condolences to the victims and their families.”
MacSween said the victim transported to the hospital is expected to survive. The motive is unclear, and no officers were injured.''
