''Police were called to the building in the area of Jane Street and Rutherford Road around 7:20 p.m., said police spokesperson Const. Maniva Armstrong.

They found between five and seven victims. “The exact number is not known at this time,” said Armstrong, noting police were still in the process of searching the building.

An officer speaking with residents outside the building said they’re clearing a path inside for displaced residents to return to their units. A handful moved into the lobby to keep warm while they wait.

Two women standing behind the police border told the Star late Sunday night that they haven’t been in their units for eight hours.''

"Investigators located a woman that had been shot in the face, police said, later discovering other victims.

Police Chief Jim MacSween confirmed that six people were killed in the shooting, including the suspect, who was fatally shot in an interaction with officers.

A seventh victim was rushed to a hospital.

“Horrendous scene,” MacSween said on Sunday. “There is no further threat to the community at this point. We offer our sincere condolences to the victims and their families.”

MacSween said the victim transported to the hospital is expected to survive. The motive is unclear, and no officers were injured.''

''Sources told the Toronto Sun police are investigating multiple shooting scenes at a condo building and are working on a theory that an individual went from unit to unit, attacking six members of the condo board. One of the victims was hospitalized and is expected to survive.''

This is a developing story. But what is known is many ambulances and first responders raced to the scene, which was originally called out as an active-shooter case. Time will tell if emergency room doctors can save some of them.

“There is going to be a large number of deaths,” said one police source.

It’s early into the investigation, but police were working on a theory that the shooter was either a past board member of this condo board or had a major row with them. Or it’s possibly both.''

Unbelievable. Over a condo issue? I wonder if there will more to this story than that.

''Police sources say the shooter was in an ongoing legal battle with the condo board of the building at 9235 Jane St. near Rutherford Rd.''
Investigators are in the process of trying to talk to his family or acquaintances to learn more on the background of this dispute and any possible court orders that resulted from it.

Police were also mining through social media posts they believe show the in-distress killer expressing fear of being accosted by board members.

MacSween told media police were heavily focused on identifying the victims in the horrific scene and notifying next of kin.''

''Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which looks into any incident during which someone is killed or badly injured when police are present, said in a news release Monday that the man fatally shot by an officer was 73 years old.''

''Victims' next of kin being contacted, police say

Nicolle said it's not known if there was any relation between the suspect and the victims and that the condo building remains an "active, ongoing scene."

She said next of kin are still being contacted, so specific information cannot be released at this time.

But Nicolle said it appears that there were victims in more than one unit in the condo building.''

Glad they just came out and said it, imo, rbbm.
''Mass shootings are rare in Canada, and Toronto has long prided itself on being one of the world’s safest big cities.

Canadians are nervous about anything that might indicate they are moving closer to U.S. experiences with gun violence.''

Condo Board Meetings are the worst.

As soon as I heard it was a condo shooting I immediately began thinking it was an issue with the Condo Board.

I’d like to know what kind of a gun was used and whether it was legally or illegally obtained.

This is terrifying news. Being a member of a condo board is a thankless position that actually consumes a lot of time and energy, and for nothing in return.

I have a friend who is currently serving as a board member and they are having issues with one of the unit owners (lawyers now involved). He was already thinking about resigning his position but this awful incident has cemented his decision.

Terrible tragedy for the victims and their loved ones. It is always extra sad around the holidays.

The shooter's name is now in MSM, as disclosed by a judge. Francesco Villi.

Here is his Facebook which contains video rants about his ongoing legal issues. I only watched the most recent video but it seems his issues were with the builders of the condo. He talks about not being able to sleep at night because the building's electrical room is right below his first floor unit causing his bed to vibrate and makes him shake and tremble in the mornings.

Absolutely unhinged.

''According to court documents, the condo board had previously filed a restraining order against Villi’s “allegedly threatening, abusive, intimidating and harassing behaviour.”

In a recent case including a wild series of unsubstantiated allegations, Villi believed condo board members were trying to intentionally harm him. His claims against three currently listed condo board members and three others, were dismissed by a judge in September as “frivolous and/or vexatious.”

''However a source close to the investigation, who was not authorized to speak publicly, identified the suspected gunman to The Canadian Press as Francesco Villi.
“The man was a resident in the building and the man was using a semiautomatic handgun,” Denette said.
She said a single officer discharged their firearm multiple times, fatally injuring the 73-year-old gunman.
The weapon has been recovered from the scene, but Denette could not say whether or not the gun was legally purchased.
“I don't have any information as far as any potential criminal history of the man who was killed,” Denette said.''

''Just days before his shooting spree, Villi was posting videos of himself on social media with snot dripping from his nose. He claimed it burned his skin and was the result of the electricity in his condo unit.''

''Villi sought more than $8 million in damages from Rita Camilleri, Dino Colalillo, Naveed Dada, Russell Manock, John Di Nino, and Patricia De Sario, all directors of his condo board when he launched the claim in December 2020. In rejecting the claim in August 2022, Justice Joseph Di Luca of the Ontario Superior Court tried to explain Villi’s claims, which he wrote and submitted himself with legal representation.''

Whoa!

That’s some really disturbing ranting going on there.

I wonder how long he lived there. Was he ever reported to LE for his behaviour in and around the building?

He had a semi automatic handgun? I wonder if he was licensed?

Family? Friends? Just looking at his FB postings it is clear that mental stability is an issue. He was severely ruminating and it just kept going on and on. He needed serious help years ago. This is not new for him. Did anyone try to get him help?

The pandemic wouldn’t have helped. Being confined at home where he felt he was slowly being killed would have made matters much worse.

Violence was inevitable. It will be interesting to see if any interventions were attempted. He was on a one way path.

I can’t imagine being on the board or living in that building. It must have been so upsetting to be dealing with this guy day in and out. I’d have been terrified.

He was a ticking time bomb that finally blew.

So did I… this is horrifying.
I live in a condo building and 2 owners have been banned from our online forum for honestly pretty unhinged rantings…

It has been described as a semi-auto. No word yet if it was legal.

This is so tragicly senseless. This article is quite extensive. In summary this man obviously held a grudge against the “demonic” condo board, not because it was warranted in the least, but because he was delusional in believing that something about the condo’s electricity was causing him breathing problems - not the fact that he had lung cancer. So very sad.

Very senseless. This is just brutal… I’m so sorry for the victims.

He was a ticking time bomb. But what could have been done? He owned his condo… they couldn’t evict him.
But for real, and I know he was wasn’t rational but why would he not sell his condo?!?!

Selling would be like admitting the “demons” defeated him. There’s nothing logical about an irrational person who truly believes they been wronged, seems causing death was how he intended to win the battle. The condo board had filed a restraining order filed against him, unfortunately that wasn’t enough to protect them but in doing so they must’ve known he might be dangerous.

This tragedy is another example why I’ve long believed Canada should legalize involuntary mental health incarceration. This social media rantings, will not blatantly threatening, surely were another indication of his poor mental health.

This story is not really unique, it’s very similar to other incidents were an unbalanced and disgruntled idiot shoots up people at a prior workplace or government agency.
