I finally get it. He claimed to have witnessed the withdrawal close up to explain knowing the count was 40k as per his text to GF when the figure not mentioned in SS text to him and no one affiliated with this transaction had mentioned the amount. I have always thought he lied because he was involved, but wasn't clear on why he might lie about this particular detail. JMO

Exactly. He knew the specific amount and was trying to explain it away. Lamely.

JMO Before interviewing JW, investigators had spoken with the accountant who had withdrawn the money. He told them JW did not witness the transaction, know the withdrawal amount, see the receipt, look in the envelope. He told them details that contradicted JW's and they drilled down based on those, so then JW revised accordingly. Investigators had his phone and were checking his msgs. as they interviewed him, so he knew they'd discover he had texted GF the withdrawal amt. His lie that he'd witnessed withdrawal was to cover for knowing the amount when the text from SS referred to package, but not amount.
As to instantly knowing from taking a peek--which is more harmless than knowing from being in on it--IDK Are the bundles labeled? I never withdrew 40 thou. and never worked in a bank.

The bundles are made up of hundred dollar bills. Not that hard to figure out how much cash there was there. Just look at one and you could figure it out pretty quickly.

If he was involved, why would he take a pic and send it to his girlfriend? That makes no sense.

I honestly don't know. I wonder who CNN considers "official". And what reason would the "official" have to release that information if LE wasn't ready to make a public statement? I'm always suspicious of unnamed sources. People aren't held accountable if their names aren't attached to the information they're disseminating. Plus, I always have a problem trusting someone who would leak information that they know their company/department/boss doesn't want released. Seems unethical and self-aggrandizing to me.

LE officials and journalists/news reporters have a symbiotic relationship. They need eaCH other and owe each favors and do each other favors. It does not surprise me that a reporter might try and get the latest info on JW off the record, and be told by his contact that it is a cold lead right now. JMO

No, actually reporters and officials do not have a "symbiotic relationship" whatever the heck that means.

He sent the photo to his girlfriend because he was stupid. Not a difficult concept to grasp.

LE is going to dig a big hole looking at SS's financial and business dealings, contacts, just to see if it takes them anywhere.
Ido tend to agree that they will bring in a forensic accountant so they can ascertain if anyone in the company had embezzled. forged checks, tried to exceed his/her authority. They will also look at all who have handled SS's accounts. This will be done to flush out any inside accomplice at AIW, or bank, or Dojo, and to document having cast a wide net, not stopping the investigation at DW. Of course, they will look over any case of bad blood, past legal battles, and try to eliminate people. They surely must explore any connection between JW and DW, as they will look at the women and his brother . You know if they offer DW the possibility of parole if he turns on the "dream planner" who might have brought this easy pickins to his attention, he need never get parole. Every time he is up for it, AS parents and SS parents will be there; most daunting to his chances, the Savopoulos girls will be there to talk about little Phillip. DW will never get out if he's convicted, but he's cocky enough to think he might. Nate Thayer was on the news today. He says JW family lived a few feet from each others' apartment for several years. I don't know if JW sometimes went by to get doobie from DW, ran into him and his bro or cuz at parties, went to some of the same clubs, chatted about how to get by driving without plates, grabbing a sticker off someone else's car to put on yours or how to full out steal regs and titles and doctor em up. What's DW been living on? Did JW get over his head with playing the race driver part and was he falling short on making the money needed to pursue his dream?Had they ever as kids nicked car parts, merchandise, plates? Did they swap tips? JMO They don't have to be best buds to need each other from time to time. I think in this case, JMO made a proposal to DW he couldn't refuse. I don't think it's JW's first time at the rodeo either. JMO

Yes, they do, IMO. They rely upon each other. The cops OFTEN ask reporters to send out perp descriptions, Missing persons reports, BOLOS, etc. And they sometimes ask them to hold back certain info.

And reporters rely upon their own sources within the department to help them have 'scoops' or interesting stories to report. They do have a symbiotic relationship because they rely upon each other.

ETA:

Symbiotic relationships are a special type of interaction between species. Sometimes beneficial, sometimes harmful, these relationships are essential to many organisms and ecosystems, and they provide a balance that can only be achieved by working together.

Because he was told to pick up a "package." (modsnip)

So what. He took a peek. Who doesn'T? I always looked at what I delivered when I was an assistant. You'd be stupid not to look at what you were driving around.

Idon tend to agree that they will bring in a forensic accountant so they can ascertain if anyone in the company had embezzled. forged checks, tried to exceed his/her authority and I think they will also look at all who have handled his accounts on the bank's side. This will be done to uncover an inside accomplice and to document thorough examination of all parties who might have been involved so as not to be accused of too narrow a focus. I personally would be surprised if any bank teller, higher up official, the AIW accountant was in on the crimes. Then they have to vet the players and the partners involved in SS companies and with the dojo. Of course they will look over any case of bad blood, take alibis, etc. So the cast and the money is complicated and time consuming enough. Then the evidence in the house, hoping to turn up the stolen cells, any connection between JW and DW, DW and his bro and the women. You know if they offer DW the possibility of parole if he turns on the "dream planner" who might have brought this easy pickins to his attention, he need ever get parole. The amount of reaching in this post...

I am not so sure that is totally accurate info. Wasn't that JW's fathers apartment since they were divorced? And wasn't JW's father a cop? Would he have let his son hang out with Wint? And did JW even live with his Dad?

There was no "peeking" though. He was handed bundles of cash, that he put in his own "package".

It seems many are just skipping right over this, from CNN

A separate law enforcement official says investigators have been perplexed as to why the assistant changed his story multiple times, but at this point investigators don't believe he was complicit in the crime. The official cautioned, however, that a conclusion about that has not been reached.

Bumping.

I cannot believe there are still pages and pages of discussion about JW's involvement when police have said they don't believe he's involved at this point. Speculation like this is likely why this statement was made and is as close to clearing him as we're going to get until the trial IMO.

What about the two female POIs who were getting money orders prior to the fire? We're they present the whole time or did they just pick up the cash after it was delivered?

What if the reason JW said Thursday instead of Wednesfay is because the package Ss or DW was referring to on Wednesday was something else ---not money. When LE saw the text and assumed it was the cash he went with that.

This would explain the flurry of calls Thursday morning- the money pick up had not been finalized Wednesday night before the text to JW.

I wish you wouldn't keep asserting that SS moved cash around on a regular basis. Unless you know this as fact, it's a big assumption. Moving money around accounts is different than having huge chunks of cash delivered to your home. The behavior of the AIW employee and the excitement of JW make me think that couriering thousands of dollars at a time was NOT a regular occurrence. I read on WS that BOA has a $10,000/day/account limit, which would explain the $40,000. Obviously, the AIW employee would have to be a signatory on the account to withdraw the money.

I think it's possible that SS had never done anything to make his employees doubt his integrity, so if he asks for $40,000, he must have a good reason. The AIW accountant would be putting his reputation/job/freedom on the line if he believed SS might be doing something irregular, and went along with it. For that reason, I think SS must have said something like "I'll explain later. Trust me on this" and the employee had no reason not to trust him. JMO and now you can tell me to stop assuming SS was NOT moving money around all the time. :)

I think its the most logical assumption for why asking for the cash didn't raise alarms. And, again, the People magazine article said as much, adding its very common for people in SS' industry to handle large amounts of cash. But I agree that the employees had no reason not to trust him.

There has been some speculation about SS sending covert signals. I think he didn't do anything of the kind because he didn't want to endanger his son. If he wanted to send covert signals, he would have succeeded. JMO.

Right. He not only knew the package contained money, he knew the exact amount. That is huge.

Hello Good People,

I've been gone a few hours today, can you please retype everything I missed? Ok so I really read it all, has Amy S phone SW been posted yet? Saw that somewhere but don't remember if it is here.

Here's a quick summary of the last 48 hours:
* The house warrant was released and then hours later, the return was released. There was some interesting, but not very surprising stuff in it.
* People are divided about whether $40K in cash is a lot of money. This is causing some raucous debates.
* There is some debate about whether or not many famous luminaries were scheduled to attend the dojo opening. I'm not sure why.
* There may have been some female perps based on some hair and other forensic evidence found at the scene.
* Some feel, based on a comment by an unnamed source that LE doesn't know why JW lied but don't think he's involved, that JW has been cleared and we should stop talking about him.
* Others feel something isn't right with JW and continue to discuss his lies and so-forth.
* Porsche seats can or cannot recline enough to hide a passenger.
* Consensus has been reached that DW is a very, very bad man.
