GUILTY MN - Samantha, 15, & Gianna Rucki, 13, Lakeville, 19 April 2013

The Dahlens have been back to court again--asking again in another way for the judge to dismiss the charges against them (deprivation of parental rights). https://medium.com/@mbrodkorb/judge...-doug-and-gina-dahlen-bcf7d129e84e#.u9k3na5kc

They have attempted to claim that the definition of parental rights is overbroad. This last claimed that the charges violated their religious rights.

Judge turned them down.

July 18... A week from Monday - Sam Grazzini Rucki trial is scheduled to begin.

I believe that now adds up to two siblings (including the now-adult son) who have gone on the record to say that the abuse that has been claimed did not happened.

If nothing else, this case is an interesting study in the process of children feeling compelled to accept the reality sworn to by one or the other parent. In the 20/20 interviews, the son really alluded to being convinced by his mother that there was abuse and he just couldn't remember it.

Wow. Quite a story about the physical abuse never happening. What really brought this "home" to me is Mom saying she would be back in a couple of days but never returned. Isn't that kidnapping plus child abandonment? What psychological impact would that have on the girls when Mom just left them off, never called, never returned?

Guess I can't understand the Dahlens in all this, too. What kind of people would allow the girls to stay at their house for two years, no financial support, no questions asked. Strange people involved all around.

Apparently there are 8 charges against Sandra, which include 2 along the lines of interference with parental rights. Not sure what the others are, but certainly abandonment occurs to me as well.

All I can surmise about the Dahlens is that they seem to hold a set of delusional beliefs about the government and courts. Kind of a hook, line and sinker openness to believing that not only were these kids abused by their father, but also that no legal remedies were available. I have read a bit about how they came to start their equine mission to abused kids--although I am very dubious about the extent to which their "services" actually exist or serve any actual clientele (beyond the Ruckis). As a religious person I raise a skeptical eyebrow at their account of being led in a dream to a white horse who then appeared before them in need of a home (or something like that). I suspect that they fall more on the delusional rather than outright con side. Although Mr. Dahlen apparently has some scofflaw counts against him--refusing to settle up as ordered with a previous wife by selling the ranch or buying out her share.

Grazzini-Rucki's boyfriend will NOT testify for her. Legal attempts are being made by mother's team to force Samantha to testify against her mother. (As if her mother hasn't done enough negative things already).

Yes--putting a kid (even one who is now over 18) on the stand to testify against one or the other parent is really gut-wrenching to me.

My understanding is that the BF was just dropped from the witness list. Apparently the prosecution is prepared to show that a VM containing gunshots--alleged to be a threat from the Dad--originated from the BF's computer. So, I'll wager the defense preferred not to give the prosecution access to him.

The Judge has ruled that both daughters must testify.

The oldest one recently swore in a statement that there was no abuse. Perhaps, as this is a jury trial, Mom's attorney will refrain from any bullying tactics to challenge that statement. Can't imagine that this would help her case. But rationality doesn't always seem to be the order of the day.

These girls have apparently lived through some awfully ugly stuff between their parents, followed by what amounts to being abandoned by their mother. By all accounts they have currently arrived at a state of stability. It may take them years of maturity to be able to sort out all the complexities of feelings toward both their parents. Putting a kid on the stand, knowing that what they say may make a difference in whether one of those parents ends up in jail--well, looks to me like an unfair burden.

Two charges dismissed against Grazzini Rucki - no idea what they were. Samantha testified in an adjoining room - no idea as to her testimony - will continue Monday.

The lights in a Hastings courtroom dimmed, and Samantha Rucki appeared on four flat-screen monitors. She sat in a small conference room, her head slumped down, cheek resting on her hand, her eyes pointed down to a table as a court reporter sat on her right and a judge to her left. Her voice was barely audible when she confirmed her name...

It was the first time in more than three years that her mother, Sandra Grazzini-Rucki, saw her daughter...

The judge presiding over the divorce dispute had ordered the children to live with an aunt... Once she got to the home with her aunt, Samantha said she “freaked out.” She went into a bathroom and turned on the shower so no one could hear her. Then she called her mother.

“I wanted her to help me,” she said. “It was my idea.”

Sandra Grazzini Rucki posted bail ($100,000). I keep wondering if she will appeal.
