ADMIN NOTE:

This thread is dedicated to discussion of CB as the suspect in Madeleine's case.

The thread is NOT for rehashing anything to do with the McCanns who were formally cleared.

Members who persist in bringing up the suggestion or possibility of the McCanns being responsibile for their daughter's disappearance will have posts removed and may face a temporary or permanent loss of posting privileges.

ADMIN NOTE:

This thread is about Christian Bueckner as the suspect in Madeleine's disappearance.

Dogs and the McCanns are off topic in this discussion.

Also, stop the snark and bickering in this thread.

Thank you.

It could indeed be the case that they will start searching everywhere CB frequented around the time of MM's disappearance.

It could indeed be the case that they will start searching everywhere CB frequented around the time of MM's disappearance.

IMO that may be the next phase to this investigation. A series of searches along the lines of photos he took & an informant with some insight into when he spent time there. IMO highly unlikely CB would have discarded of any evidence in the grounds of somewhere he could easily be traced to & a place other people were staying at. More likely in a place like the dam imo.

I am going to go ahead & post this - so I can shorten it up a bit.

Oct. 11, 2022 Update: Specifically, the accused is charged with three acts of serious rape & two acts of sexual abuse of children, specifically:
1. At a point in time that cannot be determined more precisely between December 28, 2000 & April 8, 2006, surprising an unknown 70-80 year old woman in her bedroom in her holiday apartment in Portugal. Then the masked suspect is said to have tied up & raped the victim. He then hit the victim several times with a whip. The accused is said to have recorded the entire event with a video camera.

2. On another day between December 28, 2000 & April 8, 2006, which can no longer be precisely determined, the accused allegedly assaulted an unknown, German-speaking girl aged at least 14 naked in the house he lived in in Praia da Luz in Portugal tied to a wooden pole in the living room. First he hit the naked girl with a whip. The accused is said to have brutally forced the girl to have oral sex. The accused also videotaped this act.
3. On June 16, 2004 at around 3:00am, the accused in Praia da Rocha in Portugal is said to have gained access to the apartment of a then 20-year-old woman from Ireland via the balcony. The sleeping woman was then awakened by the masked suspect holding a knife & brutally raped. The accused then tied & gagged the woman to a table & raped her again. He then whipped the victim on the back with a whip he had brought with him & finally forcibly performed oral sex with the victim. The accused filmed large parts of the events with a video camera he had brought with him. While the accused later fled over the balcony, the victim managed to free herself & crying to ask for help.
4. On April 7, 2007 at around 3:30pm, the accused is said to have ambushed a 10-year-old German girl who was playing on the rocks behind a hole on a section of beach in Salema in the district of Faro in Portugal, wearing only shoes & otherwise naked. He grabbed the child's wrist & began to perform masturbation movements on his naked penis. He asked the girl with a grin to look at his naked genitals & the masturbation movements he was making in order to sexually arouse himself. After the accused had ejaculated, he let go of the girl & fled.
5. On June 11, 2017, in the early hours of the morning at around 2am during the so-called snail festival on a playground in Bartolomeu de Messines in Portugal, the accused made eye contact with an 11-year-old Portuguese girl who was on the swings of the playground there have sat. Then, while constantly eyeing the child, the accused pulled down his trousers & underpants & made masturbation movements on his naked penis in order to sexually arouse himself, until the frightened girl ran to her father for help. The suspect was arrested on the spot by the Portuguese police. On the basis of the indictment, an arrest warrant was also requested because the public prosecutor's office believed that there was an urgent suspicion of a crime. There is also a risk of escape and repetition.
Nov. 10, 2022: Brueckner has written a letter from prison, after being charged last month over accusations of rape & sexual assault in Portugal & insists he did not commit the crimes. Brueckner has accused German prosecutors of plotting to frame him for a string of crimes. The Madeleine McCann suspect was charged last month over accusations of rape & sexual assault in Portugal. But the 45-year-old insists he has done no wrong. In a rambling prison letter he wrote: “There is no evidence at all that I committed any of these crimes. No DNA, nothing.
Nov. 28, 2022: From the Braunschweig court: Arrest warrant: In the criminal proceedings (Az. 2 KLs 213 Js 52790/18 (15/22)) the 2nd Criminal Chamber issued an arrest warrant against the 45-year-old accused for five acts of violating sexual self-determination with a decision dated November 18, 2022. The 2nd Criminal Chamber has affirmed an urgent suspicion for the five accused offenses and considered the reasons for the imprisonment of the risk of flight and the risk of repetition to be given. The accused is currently serving the prison sentence from the judgment of the Braunschweig Regional Court of December 16, 2019 (Az. 1 KLs 71/19, sentence to a total prison sentence of 7 years). An execution of the arrest warrant is currently not possible, as this requires the consent of Italy (cf. § 83 h IRG), since the accused was apprehended & extradited there. This is now being obtained by the public prosecutor's office in Braunschweig as part of a so-called supplementary approval procedure. The decision was made in the interim procedure. A press release will be published in due course on the further progress of the proceedings.
Feb. 17, 2023: German legal wrangle over jurisdictions is threatening to delay any trial for months. Prosecutors in Braunschweig have overall charge of the case because Brueckner’s last registered address was in the city in 2016. But his lawyer Friedrich Fuelscher says he was actually living in a warehouse in Neuwegersleben, Lower Saxony. He is arguing that prosecutors in that region have jurisdiction & wants the Braunschweig team thrown off the case. Mr. Fuelscher is believed to be preparing a formal application for the case to be transferred to Lower Saxony. Prosecutors admit they still cannot prove Brueckner is the man who snatched Madeleine McCann, a friend (who knew the German when they were living in the Algarve together) has claimed. German authorities are “convinced” the 46-year-old paedophile abducted & murdered the British youngster in Portugal in 2007. But more than three years since they named Brueckner as their prime suspect, they appear no nearer charging him. Prosecutors have begun re-interviewing Brueckner’s friends & associates in a bid to crack the case once & for all. Asked about the jurisdiction row, Braunschweig prosecutor Hans-Christian Wolters said: “The regional court has not yet made a decision on how & when the proceedings will continue. The delay is based upon the legal discussion, which court is responsible for opening the trial. Either Brauschweig, or Magdeburg, due to the fact Brueckner lived at random at the Neuwegersleben site. The defense were trying to move the case to a different court because it should have been filed in the defendant's home district.
March 2, 2023 Update: The indictment against Brückner, the main suspect for Maddie's murder will only be ready in 2024. "The investigation is ongoing, but it will take much longer. We may not finish it this year," Hans Christian Wolters, the German prosecutor at the Braunsch public prosecutor's office, revealed to Expresso. The delay in bringing charges against the suspect is related to the fact that proceedings are still underway in different countries, sources close to the case said. Hans Christian Wolters even stated that he was certain that Brückner "is Maddie's killer".
April 20, 2023 Update: A court in the German city of Braunschweig has thrown out rape & sexual offence charges against Brueckner his lawyer said on Thursday. The court's decision means that legal authorities in Braunschweig have no jurisdiction over the case of "Maddie", a British girl who disappeared in Portugal in 2007 at the age of 3, lawyer Friedrich Fuelscher said in an email to Reuters. German prosecutors last year said they had charged Brueckner with three offences of aggravated rape & two offences of sexual abuse of children in Portugal between Dec. 28, 2000 & June 11, 2017. Fuelscher said the court in Braunschweig had decided that it had no jurisdiction in the case & had revoked the arrest warrant against Brueckner. The charges were not directly linked to the McCann case, but having thrown them out & revoked the warrant, the court could no longer be expected to consider the latter case either. Fuelscher did not say when Brueckner was due to be released or whether the court decision would affect that. Hans Christian Wolters, spokesman for the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office, was surprised by the decision. "Actually, the district court should have served the decision on the defence lawyer & us at the same time. But it didn't do that, so I can't comment on the content yet." He said that after reviewing the decision, it would be necessary to "evaluate it ^ consider whether we will appeal against it." A statement from the public prosecutor's office & the Regional Court of Braunschweig is still pending. It is unclear whether the public prosecutors in Magdeburg or Frankfurt will give the same weight to the evidence as their colleagues in Braunschweig & charge Brückner.
April 21, 2023 Update: Landgericht Braunschweig declines jurisdiction in proceedings 2 KLs 213 Js 52790/18 (15/22) (rape, sexual abuse). Braunschweig Regional Court DECLINES jurisdiction in the proceedings 2 KLS 213 JS 52790/18 (15/22) (Rape, Sexual abuse). In the course of the interlocutory proceedings in the above-mentioned proceedings, the Regional Court of Braunschweig examined, inter alia, the local jurisdiction pursuant to section 16 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (StPO) and, by order of 19.04.2023, declared itself without jurisdiction with regard to the indictment of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Braunschweig dated 05.10.2022 (see also press release of 12.10.2022).
April 22, 2023 Update: Despite global headlines to the contrary yesterday, a date had not yet been set for a hearing of the five charges that were levelled at the convicted pedophile, 46, in October last year. The chief prosecutor in the case has told the Olive Press it is 'merely an issue of jurisdiction' and the trial will 'certainly' still go ahead. Hans Christian Wolters confirmed there was 'no reason to speculate' and 'nothing has changed' after Braunschweig Landgericht, or the city's lower court, provisionally passed the case over to the region of Magdeburg.
April 20, 2023 Update: A court in the German city of Braunschweig has thrown out rape & sexual offence charges against Brueckner. These charges are not linked to the McCann case. The court, in the state of Lower Saxony, confirmed the decision, saying the fact that Brueckner had registered a place of residence in the state of Saxony-Anhalt meant it fell outside Braunschweig's jurisdiction. A spokesperson for the court stressed that the charges were separate from the McCann case & declined to confirm Fuelscher's view that the move meant the court would no longer be able to consider the latter.
May 20, 2023 Update: German police looking for Madeleine McCann's body are about to begin a major search of a remote Algarve reservoir suspect Brueckner used to visit. Police in Portugal are soon expected to start closing off roads leading to the man-made dam near the town of Silves in southern Portugal ahead of the official start of the search tomorrow. Scotland Yard detectives are understood to have traveled to the area but only with a 'watching brief.' German police are expected to arrive later. The search is set to last for at least two days & beyond that if anything of relevance is found. It was searched twice in February & March 2008 by divers hired by a Portuguese lawyer. Expert divers are now set to explore the murky depths of the dam around the Barragem do Arade reservoir, but digs will also take place in woodland by the water.
May 23, 2023 Update: Making a statement to German TV channel RTL, German state prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said he could not "give any concrete information" on the clues on which the search operation is based. "They are not tips that come from the accused... but you can imagine that we don`t start searching somewhere in Portugal on the off chance, but that there must be a good reason for it. "We do have one, but I ask for your understanding that I cannot disclose it here at the moment for tactical reasons." Around lunchtime, more than 20 officers were digging beside the reservoir. A number of bags have been taken away from the search area, although it is not known what is in them. There are reportedly four areas of interest to be searched this week. The search was called off early on the first day at around 6pm due to bad weather. So far, soil samples have primarily been collected for later analysis, the state TV broadcaster RTP & the state news agency Lusa in Portugal reported on Wednesday, citing participants in the campaign.
May 24, 2023 Update: Searches continued at the Arade reservoir for a second day. Divers searching for Madeleine McCann probe the Barragem do Arade reservoir in Portugal for the second day as they look for the pink pyjamas the toddler was wearing when she vanished. The officers acting on “credible information” are seeking any fragments of clothing & old rags that could be related to her disappearance. A Policia Judiciaria statement on Monday said it is co-ordinating searches in the Algarve at the request of German police & in the presence of British officers. Police have been spotted digging a new area of woodland, as the search for Madeleine continues at a remote reservoir in Portugal. Diggers, heavy machinery & sniffer dogs were brought in, as teams focused on two specific areas around Barragem do Arade in the south of the country. Officers spent hours cutting back the undergrowth, before using shovels to excavate part of the area - around 30 miles from Praia da Luz, where the three-year-old went missing in 2007. Police also confirmed the search, as part of an investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine, will continue into a third day, 5/25/23. The search was expected to move into its third day as the Portuguese source insisted German officers had drawn up a detailed map of key locations, some still untouched. The source added that the site could be linked to other crimes the prolific sex offender has committed. Speaking to Sky News, Mr Clarke said that police are "optimistic" that they might also find the bodies of three missing children who have never been found, including eight-year-old Joana Cipriano, who went missing in 2004, "very near" to Praia da Luz. Madeleine McCann police remove bags during reservoir search and yet all the other sources are saying Pyjamas or fibres.
May 25, 2023 Update: Fresh searches in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are set to end within hours. Portuguese police have been told they will no longer be needed after 4pm today, signalling a likely end to the operation which started on Tuesday morning. A well-placed police source said: "The GNR has received instructions to stand down at 4pm local time." The GNR is one of the two Portuguese police forces which have been working at the Barragem do Arade. There was no immediate information made available by the other force, the Policia Judiciaria. Earlier today, officers were spotted photographing an area of woodland after a digging operation was commenced yesterday afternoon. Officers continued to focus on an area of forest on a peninsula at Barragem do Arade on Thursday after digging began Wednesday afternoon." "If it now takes three or four days, it doesn't matter. It will take until we are 'through' with the area." per Mr. Wolters. Searches at the Arade dam, in Silves, in the context of the Maddie McCann case have ended. The traces found will be analyzed in Germany, the country that requested the operations. The steps began on Monday & were extended until this Thursday due to adverse weather conditions, which will have made the work difficult. This is the biggest operation carried out in recent years regarding the disappearance of the British child. Authorities conducted searches on land & in water. Correio da Manhã knows that trees were cut down to make excavations in the land. They tried to look for irregularities in the land, to see if they found mortal remains or something connected to Maddie. According to Correio da Manhã , a relevant clue was found this Thursday. Several inspectors were seen concentrated in a specific area in the place where the searches took place. At the end of the day, the balance of the Judiciary Police (PJ) through a statement or press conference will account for what was recovered.
Per DM Investigators searching a reservoir for clues in the McCann case have been looking for a gun & camcorder stolen from prime suspect Christian Brueckner's house. A criminal informer tipped off German prosecutors that items taken in the 2007 raid at Brueckner's isolated home were then thrown into the reservoir. Police are desperate to find the video camera as they believe it may contain images of Madeleine, but also of other sex attacks Brueckner is said to have carried out on at least two unidentified women. The informer has backed up information from key witnesses Manfred Seyferth & another man called Helge Busching, who have already told German investigators they broke into the house while Brueckner was in jail. Seyferth said the pair had found a gun & a video camera at the isolated house in Floral where Brueckner lived, a few miles from the reservoir at Silves on Portugal's Algarve, the focus of the latest police search. Footage on the video camera was said to show Brueckner torturing & raping an American woman, with footage of a girl around 15 years old also subjected to the same horrific ordeal.

May 31, 2023 Update: Detectives from the Federal Criminal Police (BKA), Germany’s equivalent of the FBI, spent days searching land next to the Arade Dam last week. They used sniffer dogs, radar & search teams to scour the location just 31 miles from where three-year-old Maddie vanished in 2007. After the dig cops left behind two-foot deep bore holes & it is believed the soil they recovered from them is being forensically analysed in Germany. The results could be revealed as soon as Thursday. It still remains unclear as to exactly why investigators decided to search the land near the dam so thoroughly. Police teams were seen methodically chopping down trees & hacking away at undergrowth to expose an area just a short distance from the water. Portuguese sources point to an informant giving police a specific tip-off that Brueckner visited the site just days after Maddie went missing from her room in Praia da Luz. This tip-off is believed to have been matched with geolocation clues found in the convicted paedophile's vile stash of 8,000 of videos & images. It was claimed they were searching for a camcorder & a gun tossed into the water but Portuguese police sources were quick to dismiss that. Chief public prosecutor Hans-Christian Wolters, who is pursuing the case against Brueckner, has said in the past they have “concrete evidence” that tragic Maddie is dead & believe Brueckner killed her. Wolters confirmed that they will be making an announcement about the results of the dig soon. He suggested that his investigation team may not have discovered any crucial evidence just yet. Speaking to The Mirror, Mr Wolters said: “We will issue a short press release. But please don't expect too much, especially nothing spectacular.”

They seem to have lot's of pics of him, that make them search the area for clues about MM herself.

So put one and one together and you know, what exactly the prosecutors have, that convinces them 100 %, to be after the right guy..... ;)

If this is so, it will confirm that HCW/BKA have poor evidence.
I don't see that. I would say they have conclusive evidence MM was murdered but not conclusive evidence that would reliably ensure that CB.would be found guilty of the crime
If they had found evidence of MM being at the dam or anywhere else they search which has ties to CB
then that would guarantee conviction

I don’t think so, IMO they already have enough evidence to bring charges but they still have information to check, leads to follow & places to search. While they have time, funding & with the other investigations concluded, IMO there may well be far more noticeable action that spans into Portugal.

I think the credibility of a new witness may well be a catalyst.

Witness testimony only will not be taken into account.

I guess they have what they need, to charge him in general.

But to charge for murder without having the body, the trial will always be based on circumstancial evidence.

So they will take the chance to find any kind of forensics, as long as they still are able to keep him locked up. That's what HCW meant when he said, they're looking for the BEST evidence that somebody can have, to charge for murder.

The fact that the McCanns, for the first time very recently seemed to acknowledge that they will never see Madeleine again would tend to confirm that.

I also think the German police may have evidence they have shared with the McCanns, but not publicly.

There maybe something in that, Grange no longer refer to it as a missing person.

On 12 May 2011 the Met announced that, at the request of the Home Secretary, it had agreed to bring its particular expertise to the Madeleine McCann case.

The then Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, considered the request and took the decision that on balance it was the right thing to do. This was subject to funding being made available by the Home Office, as this case is beyond the Met’s jurisdiction.

Investigative review

The Met’s involvement, known as Operation Grange, is led by the Specialist Crime Command unit and involved, in the first instance, an ‘investigative review’. This was a review of all of the investigations that had been previously conducted into the circumstances of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.

Ongoing investigation

In July 2013 the status of the Met’s enquiries changed to that of an investigation, working with the Portuguese authorities to pursue specific lines of enquiry.

The Met continues to work with and support colleagues from law enforcement in Portugal and Germany.

The Home Office continues to fund Operation Grange.

You may be on to something here. Do you know when the summary changed & if it did, were the words ‘missing person’ written in the last one? Thanks

‘Madeleine will always be our daughter and a truly horrific crime has been committed. These things will remain.’ McCann’s May 2022.

IMO they wouldn’t have stated this unless they were privy to some of the evidence. Timing seems to very close to SOL about to end & CB being made arguido

You’ve summed that up brilliantly.

I don't know when it was updated but it used to refer to it as a missing persons case .

This from earlier in the year.
