Missing woman disappears after road trip with boyfriend as mom reveals message to authorities

Gabby Petito, 22, set out on a road trip with her boyfriend in a converted camper van in early July to tour National Parks, but she disappeared in late August and her family hasn't heard from her in more than two weeks. Now, her mother is pleading for help finding her daughter.

Nicole Schmidt, Petito's mother, said that the last verbal conversation she had with her daughter was on Aug. 25.

"I don't know if she left Grand Teton or not," Schmidt said. "I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text. I didn't verbally speak to her."

The couple stopped in Grand Teton National Park on Aug. 25, Petito's last known location, before a planned trip to Yellowstone. They were traveling in a 2012 Ford white van that was converted into a camper.

A spokesperson for the Jackson Police Department said that an "attempt to locate" call was recently filed for Petito. The Suffolk County Police Department is also investigating the case. Suffolk County PD declined to comment on Sunday.

Petito is 5’5" and has blonde hair and blue eyes. She has a triangle tattoo with flowers on her left arm and a "Let it be" tattoo on her right arm.

Just looking at your link there. On the realtor photos of the balcony, the ' bunting' looks like linocut prints to me. Of a house? ( hard to see exact image - poor lino print)
Also reminiscent of the ' bunting' we see in some of the images of the tent's interior

It probably varies by state. In my state, if the tenants had a month-to-month lease, they would have to be given at least 30 days. But if they had a longer lease, say, a year's lease with 6 months to run, the new owner would have to honor the lease until it runs out OR buy out the tenant if he/she agrees.

If B&G had a month to move out somebody still had to pay the new owner rent for that month. And if they could take 60 days, the cost of the flight for BL might not have been excessive compared to the cost of a second month's rent in a tourist area. Still seems odd to me they didn't clear it all out before they left since they planned to be gone until at least the beginning of Nov and perhaps throughout the winter on a farm in Oregon.

Perhaps someone intended helping to redecorate to “make ready” home for anticipated newlyweds once they returned home as wedding gift or surprise. imo

I just want to ask, for those of you who doubt, or do not believe, that BL killed Gabby, why do you doubt it ? I would really like to know.

Well, I am not saying I don't lean strongly that he is guilty, but I will say with the paltry facts available to the general public, I do have "reasonable doubt". I could never use my emotions or suspicions to convict anyone. There must be some hard proofs.

I've said before, there are too many innocent people in prisons, some have paid ultimately with their lives, I see this (and every) case through that lens. If it is provable, it is the laws burden to prove it, and that is for the good of us all.

It probably has more to do with the reason why BL flew home for 5 days. Which is something that has been discussed here many times, as some posters have looked at a premeditation aspect, or a 'they needed to take a break from each other' aspect.

And if Brian did call mom nand dad about mob fight, this could have been their recommendation if they concluded couple wouldn’t be married. Then Brian arrives home and then truth comes out…imo

Yes lots of images of his own lino cuts on his SM accounts and of the prints onto paper. ( It's a very basic next step to print onto fabric instead of paper)

Anyway, if he or she was hanging his lino-cuts up there, maybe that helps establish that he or the couple have lived there at some point?

Remember the story that the parents said it was ok, that they had room for the stuff at their house. But LE said they are unaware of any of Gabby's stuff at the Laundrie home. So did he pitch it or destroy it in anger? Is it with the alligators in the reserve. Sheesh.....jmo

I do think some of those condo photos were "staged." But not entirely. Very odd decor for people in their early 20's. And not a real bookcase in sight for all the books BL was always reading.

Even though the house was sold, most of it definitely looked staged to me, but I've noticed the following:

• Pic.3 - there's a lady wearing a red top standing in the hallway much the same build as RP. I've enlarged and made it lighter. Do you think it could be RL? She may have done the staging. Notice the scarf/shawl draped over the chair. The decorative pieces at the bottom of the mirror look very similar to the little ornaments Gabby had in the van.
• Pic. 6 - there are some spectacles in a dish/bowl on top of the shelf/snack bar to the right of the box of tissues.
• Pic. 9 - Double bed and a bike against the wall.
• Pic. 10 - Same room as pic.9 from different angle showing bike with water bottle and helmet. (We know that both BL and RP ride bikes)
• Pic 11 - Man's reflection in mirror. Different colour top to the woman.
• Pic.15 - The linocuts hanging on the line look like those used by RL . Is that a storage cupboard on the far wall!
• Pic 16 - Looks like another storage cupboard at the other end.

IMO the furnishings, particularly the bedspread, are not those which Gabby or BL would buy so I can only assume that they were either owned or hired by the Laundries. Maybe they were moved to other properties as required for sale purposes. I think it's quite possible that Gabby and BL could have been living here.

Brian Laundrie’s attorney says he has “no idea” on the location of the storage unit Brian Laundrie visited in August amid his cross-country road trip with girlfriend Gabby Petito.

“Brian flew home to Tampa from SLC on 08/17 and returned to SLC on 08/23 to rejoin Gabby. To my knowledge, Brian and Gabby paid for the flights as they were sharing expenses,” the statement said.

He added, “Brian flew home to obtain some items and empty and close the storage unit to save money as they contemplated extending the road trip.”
